Key Ideas

• Exclaiming is the celebration of the work that was done, honoring the positive aspects and uncomfortable aspects of students’ experiences.
• Highlight learning, hard work, and completion of the experience
• Reflect on growth and milestones they have met.

Tips

• Keep the focus on the collaborative success and mutually supported satisfaction.
• Publicize and share students’ work, highlighting the positive aspects.
• Establish a culture of being proud of hard work done and pride in perseverance
• Make a big deal over progress and Praise, Praise, Praise!

Tools

• Class cheer, Round of applause or 2 minute dance party (Thomas, 2013, p.94)
• WHIP-One word summaries - Students are asked to provide a one-word reaction to the activity, focusing on the positives, and they are shared quickly through the room. Remember to allow kids to pass. (Thomas, 2013, p.100)
• Post Reflection discussion directed at high points and hard parts (add the hashtag/ drop the mic moment).
• Blog or video blog post - Students create an entry, in any form, video, writing etc., that celebrates the successes of a project, which can then be shared with the community.
• Letter to self - Students write a letter to themselves after completing a project focusing on” a goal for yourself for the next school year” or simply celebrating where they are now, to be remembered later on. The letter remains confidential and is returned to the students later in the year at an appropriate time.(Thomas, 2013, p.100)

This site provides a platform for students to focus on collaborative success and mutually support satisfaction.

• How do you think it could prove useful at this stage?

Students can engage in group reflection of the hard work and perseverance and develop pride in their collective work.

• What facilitation problem does it solve?

This solves the facilitation problem of skipping celebration to move on with needing to cover all a multitude of objectives. This creates space to pause, reflect and be heard and valued.

• Why did you select this?

Prezi provides a platform for students to present a big picture of an entire portfolio of work. Students can build and link documents, videos, sites, images, and share them in a public format with the larger community.

• How do you think it could prove useful at this stage?

Prezi allows students to also see the growth and milestones that may not be apparent in a set of documents, slides, and images. Housing these all in one place can help students see and honor their effort, time, and processes.

• What facilitation problem does it solve?

This solves the facilitation problem of not having a format that allows others to see the big picture of a large group effort or a long-term project.

Seesaw provides a way for students to share their work using a wide variety of formats including blogs, images, text, video, and voicing over text and images.

• How do you think it could prove useful at this stage?

This platform provides a tangible way to celebrate students' learning and share it with their families and friends while honoring different learning styles through its variety of formats.

• What facilitation problem does it solve?

This solves the facilitation problem of making learning visible beyond the walls of classrooms and schools so that the broader community can honor students work, reflect on growth with them, and experience the highlights of their work.
