Working In Google Docs: Getting into the Weeds (Offered by AULA)

Everyone expects us to work in Google Docs these days and yet many of us feel like relative novices using this program. Join us for an interactive session where we’ll work together building a Google Doc that fulfills all of the bells and whistles expected by faculty and our professional fields. Guided by a tech expert, we’ll demonstrate some essential elements that make Google Docs a great tool for academic assignments and field questions that participants bring from their own experiences. No prior knowledge required. Just be ready to get your hands dirty helping us to build a collaborative masterpiece!

This presentation will help you approach academic writing, documenting sources, and avoiding bias in APA style. We will also cover techniques for paraphrasing and for developing thesis statements, as well as an overview of APA formatting for in-text citations, references, and your entire paper. This workshop introduces important aspects of the American Psychological Association (APA) Style used to format research papers. Learn about the APA layout, from title page to references, and understand the specifics of font, margins, and spacing. Experienced facilitators will guide participants through accurate citation practices to avoid plagiarism and demonstrate how to format various source types. The interactive workshop provides hands-on practice and resources for future reference, equipping participants with a solid understanding of APA formatting and its application in academic writing. Facilitated by Nathaniel Gordon of the New England Writing Center.

Writing a Dissertation Introduction (Offered by AUNE)

This presentation is tailored for graduate students across various disciplines, focusing on the foundational aspects of an effectual dissertation introduction. It highlights the importance of clearly presenting the research topic, questions, hypothesis, and study goals. Key components include structuring a dissertation with an initial focus on the literature review and methodology before the introduction and abstract. The presentation also stresses the necessity of a well-defined, original, and specific research question, and outlines the introduction’s content: the study’s purpose, significance, theoretical framework, and a preview of the literature review and methods to establish the study’s rationale. Additionally, it offers writing tips and the importance of incorporating committee feedback. Aimed at demystifying the introduction writing process, this session provides students with the foundational elements applicable across disciplines, ensuring a strong start to their dissertation journey. Facilitated by Dr. Lindsay Katzir, AUNE Writing Center Director.

A History of Classism and Racism in Formal English (Offered by the VWC)
