Symposium Purpose

The purpose of the Student Success Symposia is to provide a forum for staff, faculty, and students to critically examine how we teach, guide, and support our students, and to explore and apply practices that foster student success at AU, with special attention to historically marginalized groups and populations.
 

Symposium Goals

• Foster antiracism and inclusion at Antioch, with the intent to observe our current practices, success, and failures; and to improve our practices and support of our community.

• Highlight the lived experiences and intersectionalities of our community and discuss immediate ways to advance AU as a more just, equitable, and antiracist institution.

• Explore intersections of people, process, technology, and data as they impact student success outcomes, with particular attention to actionable strategies.

• Showcase innovative work, successes, and best practices related to teaching, advising, and student support/services.
   

A Shared Understanding of Student Success

Using data gathered during the initial May 2021 Symposium on how we define student success at AU, the Symposium team identified meaningful relationship building, respect for students, systemic support, and individualized support as key themes.  The analysis defined important factors that are impacted by these themes:

• Professional Development

• Growth

• Critical Thinking

• Transformation

• Social Justice

• Persistence 

• Connections/Relationships

• Personal Value

• Graduation
