An apprenticeship is a training program that combines paid, on-the-job work experience with classroom instruction. Apprenticeships are offered in the the following areas: construction, industrial, and services. Apprenticeships usually last four years. An apprentice will be supervised on the job by a skilled journey person. They will also attend day school for four hours each week or eight hours every other week. An apprentice will continue to receive their normal hourly salary while attending classes. An apprentice will usually start at 40%-60% of the salary paid to a journey person in the specific trade. These wages normally increase every six months. Apprenticeship programs are a great opportunity for students to get paid to learn a trade while working.
