We made our working portfolios. the portfolios were what we would put our art in. ms. Ann wanted to make them fun to look at so she got the idea to make them graffiti themed. We made pencil marks on the folders then traced them with sharpie. then we used shapries, or paint markers to color them in. it was really run and I like the way mine turned out.
We started our book binding using the collages we made as the covers. We punched holes into the signatures, (Sets of pages we would put in our books.) Then we started threading the books together with a special type of needle, and thread. We did a coptic stitch, it was extremely hard for me, but I figured it out, and I am very proud of myself!
We started our self dig collages. A self dig collage is a image made out of many other images. these images can be from books, printed, or a magazine. we used dozens of magazines to make ours. we started by cutting out images from the magazines. the images need to represent us in some way. then we start to play around with the images, and place them. after we do this, we start to glue, the issue is, one we glue our images we need to press them, so we glue, roll, where we make sure the images are on, then we use 2 heavy books and press the collages. in between them. after, we seal them by putting a layer of glue on. then to make sure the edges don't get destroyed, we use a special kind of tape and put tape around the edges to protect it.
We started making clay pinch pots! We used clay and messed around to find a good shape for a bowl. After that We decided on animals to theme our pinch pots off of. I chose a fish, mainly because i love the ocean. Then we ended up making the bowls in animal shapes. Then we had to let them dry. after we let them dry out, they became "bone dry," we had to be very causious because the bowls were the most fragile in this stage and if they broke, they can't be fixed like wet clay could. After a while, we painted the sculptures with a special kind of paint, then our art teacher put them into a machine and fired them, then we glazed them.
We started our art pieces. It was very difficult because I kept messing up and having to restart, we started by using the tracing table to identify shapes, because your brain will go to conclusions and you draw what you see, not whats really there, that what the issue i was having. then we started our drafts, which were really just practice for our finals, then our finals came, they were one of the hardest parts of the project, we started with the simple shapes and adding little bits of detail, then we shaded and finished it off. after, we made artist statements for them, and we mounted them on frames. I did very well, all because I didn't give up.
