Nicaragua was the proud host of the Central American Gymnastics Championships 2024 last week, and representatives from around the region congregated at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello to celebrate the very best of Artistic Gymnastics in the region, and to crown champions across the disciplines, levels, and age groups.
ANS was pleased and proud to be represented by the team from our Tigers Gymnastics Academy led by our incredible coach, Ms. Liud Tellez, who also served on the technical committee for this event and is a recognized member of the Central American gymnastics community.
Standout results from our students were:
Huge congratulations to ANS parent, Mr. Norman Navarrete on his induction into the Nicaraguan Sports Hall of Fame by the Olympic Committee.
Mr. Navarrete, a highly respected member of our community, was honored for his remarkable achievements in swimming and sporting success is something that extends to his immediate family here in school.
He has two children currently on the ANS swim team, both of whom will represent us at the AASCA swimming competition in Guatemala this March. His eldest daughter, who graduated two years ago, holds both Nicaraguan National and AASCA Track & Field records, while his younger daughter, currently a senior, plays professional soccer in the 'Primera División', has been a CONCACAF Central American Champion with the Nicaraguan National Team, and won AASCA soccer in 2023.
While we proudly congratulate Mr. Navarrete on his well-deserved place in the Nicaraguan Sports Hall of Fame, we also extend our gratitude to the entire Navarrete family for their outstanding contributions to sports at ANS.
MOTIVATION
Individual Sports
At ANS, we are experiencing a surge in individual sports where athletes, while being part of a team, compete individually or against teammates.
Participation in Swimming, Gymnastics, and Track & Field has soared, with students from grades 1 through 12 representing us in various events, including school, national, and international competitions.
Recently, ANS students have achieved remarkable success, earning titles as National and Central American Champions. This accomplishment highlights the dedication of our talented coaches and the hard work of our students.
All of these activities are supported by private academies hosted by our coaches, and the results of and extended, intense schedule can be seen in the results. With plans underway to also supplement our school program with academies in traditional team sports like soccer, basketball, and volleyball, ANS is well set to enjoy sustained success across our balanced, choice based educational sound athletics program.
As mentioned, our Gymnastics team had an outstanding performance at their Central American Championship last week. They brought home a total of 7 Gold Medals, 15 Silver Medals and 11 Bronze Medals. Here are some pictures of our tigers in action at the event:
The Middle School SwimTigers participated at the National School Games - Swimming Championship last week. All had an exceptional performance and improved their personal records, three of our athletes brought back home a total of 6 Medals, 2 Silver and 4 Bronze. Congratulations to James Gallager, Sophie Ponçon and Vanessa Navarrete!
