Gifted & Talented Foundational Training (30-hours) & Yearly Update Training (6-hours)

According to the Texas State Plan for the Gifted, all principals, counselors, and core content teachers with gifted students in their classrooms are required by the state (as described in the State Plan for the Education of Gifted Talented Students 5.8 & 5.9) to attend a one-time 30-hour foundational training and complete a 6-hour update each school year. Our goal is to provide you a streamline that will take less time and be respectful of your time outside of contract hours. Please review the timely and pertinent information and next steps below.

Who needs to attend a GT Foundational hours (30-hours)?

Elementary: All core content area teachers (ELAR, Math, Science, Social Studies) that are new to the profession or have not yet completed their initial 30-hours.

Secondary: All core content area teachers teaching Honors/Pre-AP/AP courses that are new to the profession or have not yet completed their initial 30-hours. If you have participated in the Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) or the Institute for Teaching Excellence (ITE) workshops or will be this summer, this will fulfill 18-hours of their 30-hour GT foundational training; however, you will still need to take Day 1: Nature & Needs of the Gifted Learner and Day 2: Gifted Identification. and/or their GT update hours for the 2022/23 school year. Please remember that you will have until May 31, 2023 to complete this requirement, but the best time to do this is before you receive gifted learners for the upcoming school year.
