Nanotechnology for Water Shut Off & Conformance

Nanotechnology offers a transformative solution to one of the most significant challenges in mature fields: excessive water production. For the unique conditions of the Middle East and Oman—high temperatures, high salinities, and complex carbonate reservoirs—nanoparticles present distinct advantages over conventional polymer gels and mechanical solutions. While still an emerging technology, field trials, particularly those conducted by operators such as Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), are demonstrating significant promise.
