National honor society FAQs
What is NHS? The National Honor Society (NHS) is a national organization. Membership elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars have been associated with membership in the organization since its inception in 1921.
How can you get in? Juniors who have met the GPA minimum of 4.25 and who have never taken a basic course when an honors/AP/DC course was available are invited to apply in the spring. Once a complete application is received, a faculty committee looks at how well the student fulfills the pillars by having a consistent history of community service, demonstrating character in and out of school, and serving as a leader in classes, extracurricular activities, UIL, and other organizations.
How do you stay in NHS? By maintaining the minimum GPA, completing the required service hours throughout the year, and being a positive role model and leader, a student will remain in good standing.
If I am an NHS member in good standing, when do I get my cords for graduation? You will get them at the graduation rehearsal if not before.
