Item Drop-Off
Please make sure what you are bringing for your student is labeled. Let the receptionist know if you’d like us to call your student towards the end of the next class. Please note, anything not picked up by the end of the week may be donated or thrown away.
Medications
TL Hanna follows the district policy regarding student medication. All medications, excluding rescue emergent medications, remain in the health room with the appropriate paperwork on file. Students are not permitted to bring medication to the school of any kind without paperwork on file with Nurse Marsha. Any medications a student brings will result in the parent being called and possibly discarded.
School Fees
Mrs. Councill will communicate weekly via email regarding a student’s school fees. Whenever a fee is added to your student account, the email listed in PowerSchool will be sent the weekly email with a breakdown of the charges. If a student has outstanding fees on their account, they are unable to join school clubs, participate in paid field trips, obtain a parking pass, attend prom, or receive graduation tickets. These fees can be paid online or at the school.
ATTENDANCE
Attendance is taken in each class, not based on the whole day.
Students must be in class for a minimum of 45 minutes to earn credit for being in the class.
Allowable absences are coded in PowerSchool as:
SC - FT
SC - ONST
SC - BRV
SC - MED
SC - PA
SC - NURS
SC - REL
SC - VIRM
SC - OSS
SC - ISS
Any other absences, including parent notes (SC - PN and SC - UEPN) are considered unexcused and will count towards their number of absences.
For medical excuses: Data clerks are only allowed to excuse days listed on the medical excuse.
For bereavement: You must submit an obituary or funeral program and list the relation of the deceased to your student in order to have bereavement days excused. A parent note, even for a death in the family, is still considered unexcused.
If you have any specific attendance questions, please reach out to your student's data clerk.
Seat Time Requirements /FA's
Students must attend 42 days of each 45-day course (Quarter course).
Students must attend 85 days of each 90-day course (Semester course).
Students must attend 170 days of each 180-day course (Yearlong course).
Attendance Intervention
South Carolina law requires students under age 17 to attend school. Students absent for three or more consecutive days or five or more non consecutive days will be asked to attend an Attendance Intervention Plan meeting with their parent or guardian. Being present and engaged in learning is important to your academic success, and we want to do everything possible to encourage your attendance.
Powerschool is a great tool we have to help students, parents, and teachers to be on the same page with each student’s progress. You are able to see student attendance, grades, and missing assignments for each of their classes. It is highly important that each family has access to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This app can be downloaded to your phone for easy access and notifications can be set for both attendance and grade updates. The district access code to get Parent Portal set up for your student is GWJZ. If you need your student's access ID and password, please reach out to their data clerk.
GRADES
Students take 8 different classes each year (4 classes in the fall and 4 classes in the spring).
Each course counts as a Carnegie unit or credit towards graduation. Students must obtain 24 total credits to graduate high school.
Student's status as a Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior are determined by the number and types of Carnegie units they have earned.
Students must have a 60% or higher and meet attendance requirements in a course to earn a credit.
In order to be promoted to 10th grade, a student must earn at least 6 credits with 2 of those credits being Math and English.
