I am happy to be Southwood Academy's Media Specialist, and I look forward to working with all of the students, parents, faculty, and staff this year!
I love talking about books with my students. My favorite part of the job is seeing students discover and get excited about new authors or new genres. I have over 20 years of educational experience as a teacher for middle school, high school, and college classes. My Bachelor's degree is from Purdue University, my Master's degree is from Indiana Wesleyan University, and my media specialist certification is from Indiana State University. My family moved from Indiana six years ago. My husband and I have two children, a son and a daughter, who attend TL Hanna. Aside from teaching, I love to read, play tennis, watch my children participate in sports, spend time with my family, and walk my dog Trey.
The Media Center's mission is to help each student increase achievement by developing the following:
skills for inquiry and critical thinking
the ability to access knowledge and draw conclusions
skills in informed decision making, applying knowledge to new situations, and creating new knowledge
ways to share that knowledge and participate ethically and productively as members of society
the pursuit of personal and aesthetic growth
