Procedural Rules:
Students should line up in the hallways and wait for my permission to enter the dressing room.
Students must change quickly (5 minutes) and enter the classroom ready to work with all materials needed for today’s agenda listed on the board (shoes, water bottle, chromebook, hair tie, etc.).
It is expected that students use the restroom in between classes. If a student must go during class, they may raise their hand and ask, preferably while we are “in between” tasks or working independently. Students are only allowed to go one at a time.
If a student has a water bottle in the classroom, they do not need to ask before drinking out of it. However, there are appropriate and inappropriate times for this. I expect my students to learn the difference. This privilege may be taken away and the teacher will give specified water breaks.
I will tell the students to go change and/or get their shoes and belongings. Students should wait in the hallway after changing until they are dismissed to their next class.
Behavioral Rules:
Respect yourself, your teacher, your peers, the classroom and all equipment.
Arrive on time and be prepared for class.
Be attentive and follow instructions the first time they are given.
No gum, food, or drink in the dance studio. Plain water in a bottle is encouraged.
Always give your best effort! I am looking to see your growth as a dancer.
Dress Code:
Students will earn 3 points each day for properly dressing out for class. (3 points= everything fits the parameters below, 2 points= one thing is missing, 1 point= two things are missing, 0 points= more than two things are missing.)
Solid black (logos are okay). Ladies are to wear a fitted black tank top or t-shirt and black fitted leggings or shorts. If you choose, you may wear any color leotard. Gentlemen are to wear a black solid t-shirt and black shorts or pants. No baggy sweatpants.
Pink ballet shoes, tan/skin toned jazz shoes, and skin toned half soles/turning shoes will be needed.
Appropriate undergarments should be worn. No undergarments should be visible from underneath dance attire!! Be sure that your pants do not become see through when stretched!
Appropriate warm-ups may be worn, but must be removed after warm up. If warm-ups remain on, it will result in a dress code grade reduction. Warm-ups may include sweaters, jackets, shorts, or pants that are not bulky and do not hinder movement.
Long hair must be pulled back completely. Shorter hair must be pinned back away from the face or a headband may be used.
Absolutely no beaded jewelry, dangling earrings, heavy chain necklaces, or rings that stick up; it can be both a distraction and a safety hazard.
All students must dress out for each class, unless otherwise informed by the teacher. Be prepared with clothes every day.
Class Participation:
Students who follow the rules, participate fully, and are prepared for class will be given full credit for participation.
Students who are consistently disruptive, do not participate, and are unprepared for class will lose points for participation. (See Rubric on Class Website)
Consequences:
Verbal Warning
Lunch Detention
Lunch Detention and Parent Contact
After School Detention and Parent Contact
Office Referral
* The order in which the consequences are carried out depends on the severity of the offense.
Etiquette:
Proper etiquette is expected of dancers in classes, rehearsals, and performances. Inappropriate behavior will NOT be tolerated. Faculty reserves the right to deny performance opportunities to students who do not exhibit appropriate etiquette.
Lockers:
Dance students will have access to lockers in the dressing room. A spinning combination lock will be provided upon request, but students may purchase their own 4 digit lock as long as I am given the code for my records.
Students are expected to:
Use their locker only for their dance bag
Visit their locker quickly and only at the appointed times (we will go over these in class)
Clean out their locker at the end of the year
Keep lockers clean and free of trash, writing, or stickers.
Students will receive one warning if any of these expectations are not met. Any misconduct afterward will result in loss of privilege to use the locker.
*Absolutely no chewing gum, food, or drink allowed except plain water.
*Dress code will be enforced for 6TH GRADERS effective August 18th in order to give families time to purchase items if need be. If you need more time, please send me an email.
