Mr. Alan Clark is the orchestra director at Southwood Academy of the Arts High School in Anderson, SC. He started his musical career at age 5 with piano lessons, and then started his orchestral journey at age 8 on violin. His passion is sharing the musical experience with other musicians and audiences. He has played with orchestras since middle school, and is a member of the Clark String Quartet with his 3 siblings. Alan holds degrees from Minot State University (BS in Music Education '07) and the University of Maine (MM in Orchestral Conducting '12). For the past 17 years he has taught elementary general music, middle school orchestra, and high school orchestra in North Dakota, Kansas, and South Carolina. He is also the Region 2 Representative for the SCMEA Orchestra Division. Alan lives in Georgia with his wife, Loralie, and their three children, Benjamin, Abi, and Bekah. Since moving to the South, they have enjoyed learning how to farm pigs and chickens together as a family.
