My name is Erin Darnell and I am a Math Interventionist at Midway Elementary in Anderson, SC.

Early Years

I was born in Syracuse, NY and I lived in Liverpool, NY until I was eight. My entire family got to experience some major culture shock when my dad's job moved us to Collierville, TN and then two years later to Franklin, TN. I attended college at North Greenville University in the tiny town of Tigerville, SC where I received scholarships to play basketball and soccer. I met my husband the first week at North Greenville. We graduated and then married in 2006.

Family

My husband, Jarrod, is the PE teacher at Spearman Elementary. Before he became a PE teacher he was a fifth grade teacher for 15 years. We have three boys. Our eldest, Corbin (17) is a senior at Wren High and is currently attending Tri County Technical College as a dual enrollment student. He is a part of the NJROTC and looks forward to serving his country by enlisting in the military. Our middle son, Griffin (14), is a freshman at Wren and most of our "free" time is spent at baseball fields. Our youngest, Maverick (8), gets to go to Spearman with Jarrod and is going to be a third grader this year. He is our creative and innovative child, and loves to draw. We have three pets: two COVID cats (we caved and got them Christmas of 2020) and a dog we got last Thanksgiving. All of our pets came from the Greenville Humane Society.

Career

This will be year twenty-one for me!

I have worn many different hats over these two decades and held several different positions.

I began my career in 2006 as a first grade teacher at Thomas E. Kerns Elementary in Greenville County. In 2009 I transitioned to the Instructional Technology classroom where I taught all grades as part of the related arts rotation. In 2016, I decided to move back into the classroom and became a kindergarten teacher for two years. After twelve years at Kerns, I decided I needed a change and accepted a position in Anderson 5 as a Digital Integration Specialist (DIS). I loved working with teachers and students, and for eight years I was able to provide so many wonderful learning experiences as a DIS. This year I begin a new role as the Math Interventionist at Midway. I am excited to see familiar faces, as Midway was one of the schools I supported as a DIS. It will be nice to be at one school, rather than three or four! I am fortunate I still get to do what I love, which is support teachers and students.
