AI Fair Use Guidelines

Purpose
These guidelines outline ethical, responsible, and fair use of AI by Codewars users and designed to help users leverage AI as a learning assistant, not as a shortcut to bypass the learning process or dishonestly boost ranks.
Core Principles
AI as a Learning Assistant: Use AI to deepen your understanding. It's okay to ask AI to explain concepts, debug your code, or explore alternative approaches after you have made an honest attempt.
No Cheating: Submitting AI-generated solutions that you do not understand (with no unique effort or contribution to solution) is considered cheating . The goal is to learn and grow, not to game the system for honor or rank.
Transparency: When using AI to inform a discussion or explanation in public forums (e.g., Kata Discourse), provide a brief, clear disclosure.
No Spoilers: Do not post full solutions—whether AI-generated or not—in public discussions. Share hints and reasoning instead, using spoiler formatting for minimal code fragments if necessary.
Critical Thinking: Always review and understand the code AI provides. The goal is to internalize the logic, not to copy-paste.
Ask AI to explain a syntax error or a failed test.
Get plain-language explanations of concepts from a completed solution.
Translate a kata description or discussion for better understanding.
Ask for code reviews and refactoring suggestions after you've solved a kata yourself.
Submitting AI-generated solutions you don't understand and without any input or effort from you.
Using AI to auto-solve kata and farm honor or ranks.
Posting full, AI-generated solutions in public forums.
Using AI to generate spam or impersonate others.
Enforcement and Consequences
Cheating and Plagiarism: Submitting un-understood AI-generated code without effort or mass-solving with AI is a form of cheating.
Consequences: Violations may lead to account restrictions, suspension, or bans, as determined by the Codewars moderation team.
Moderation Approach: For first-time offenses, the focus will be on education/orientation. Repeat or abusive behaviour will result in stricter enforcement.
If you're unsure whether a use is fair, ask yourself: "Did this help me learn—or just help me rank up?"
