Meet Your School Counselor
I love being the School Counselor at Anchorage Public School! This is my 7th year working at APS, I also grew up in Anchorage and went to school here from Kindergarten through 8th grade. It was a dream come true to return to Anchorage as a member of the staff!
Before counseling, I taught 2nd grade in Fayette County Public Schools. It was through teaching that I discovered my desire to be a school counselor. After my 3rd year of teaching I went to graduate school to earn a Master of Arts in Counseling from Wake Forest University. I then taught for 4 more years before coming home to Anchorage.
My husband, Zac, and I live in Anchorage and enjoy raising our three young daughters here!
School Counseling Services
Individual Counseling
I see students from all grade levels for individual counseling* about a variety of subjects. Students often ask to come see me, and teachers and families also request that I see students.
Small Group Counseling
Small Group counseling typically consists of a group of 3 to 5 students. These students will be paired together because they are dealing with or working on similar topics (from grief, divorce, friendship skills, to study skills).
Class Counseling Lessons
Kindergarten through 5th grade students typically receive two 30 minute counseling lessons a month. Counseling topics may include (but are not limited to) bullying prevention, kindness, friendship skills, career education, respect, honesty, sharing, celebrating diversity, and more.
