We are very happy to announce that we are starting hybrid Monday August 30th.
As stated in my previous communications not all grades will start on the first day. This will help us evaluate protocols and make any necessary changes.
ON MONDAY AUGUST 30TH THE FOLLOWING GRADES WILL START:
NURSERY
KINDERGARTEN
GRADES 4 TO GRADE 7
GRADES 11 AND 12
ALL GRADES WILL THEN BE ON CAMPUS THURSDAY.
WE WILL START WITH THE RED GROUP. THE ONLY 2 GRADES THAT HAVE TWO GROUPS ARE EIGHTH AND NINTH GRADE. PRINCIPALS WILL BE EMAILING THE STUDENTS IN THESE GRADES SO THEY ARE AWARE OF WHAT GROUP THEY ARE IN.
THE BLUE GROUP WILL BE ON CAMPUS THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 6 AND THEN ALTERNATE EVERY OTHER WEEK WITH THE RED GROUP.
Students will be dropped off in these areas:
Preschool in the preschool building
Elementary in the front elementary area of the front parking lot
Middle and High School in the back parking lot.
IF YOU HAVE A CHILD IN ELEMENTARY AND PRESCHOOL PLEASE DROP OFF ELEMENTARY FIRST AND THEN PRESCHOOL. SAME WITH PICK UP.
THE EARLIEST TIME TO DROP OFF IS 8 AM . PLEASE DO NOT COME ANY EARLIER THAN THAT.
PLEASE VISIT THE ATTACHED LINK TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH THE PROCEDURES NEEDED TO BE FOLLOWED.
DISMISSAL WILL BE DONE IN THE SAME PLACES. PRESCHOOL AND ELEMENTARY STUDENTS WILL BE ESCORTED TO THE DISMISSAL AREA BY THEIR TEACHERS AND WAIT UNTIL THEY ARE PICKED UP. MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WILL REMAIN IN THEIR CLASSROOMS UNTIL THEY GET A CALL THAT THEIR CAR IS THERE. WE NEED TO AVOID ANY CONGREGATIONS AND THIS IS THE ONLY WAY.
IF YOUR CHILD DOES NOT HAVE A CELL PHONE PLEASE CALL THE DIVISION SECRETARY WHICH WILL LET THE TEACHER KNOW TO ALLOW THE CHILD TO GO .

As a reminder please follow these guidelines:
1) Only students confirmed to be hybrid can attend school. NO PARENTS OR VISITORS. PLEASE DROP OFF YOUR CHILD WITHOUT LEAVING YOUR VEHICLE.
2) ONLY KN95 OR SURGICAL MASKS ARE ACCEPTABLE. PLEASE COMPLY BY SENDING YOUR CHILD WITH THE APPROVED MASKS ONLY.
3) PLEASE SEND AN ADDITIONAL MASK, WATER AND SNACK WITH YOUR CHILD. NO WATER OR FOOD WILL BE AVAILABLE AT SCHOOL.
4)IF YOU NEED TO PICK UP BOOKS OR ANY OTHER MATERIAL. PLEASE DO SO FROM 1-3 PM ON MONDAY TUESDAY , THURSDAY OR FRIDAY. WEDNESDAY 8:30 TO 3PM AN OPTIMAL DAY AS NO STUDENTS WILL BE ON CAMPUS.
TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS WEEK IF YOU NEED TO PICK UP BOOKS ETC AS NO STUDENTS ARE HERE THIS WEEK.
5) PLEASE DO NOT SEND A CHILD WITH ANY SYMPTOMS OR IF THEY HAVE BEEN WITH SOMEONE WITH A POSITIVE COVID TEST. NOTIFY US IMMEDIATELY OF ANY POSITIVE CASE AT HOME SO THAT WE CAN MONITOR THE REST OF THE SECTION, DIVISION ETC.
6) YOU WILL BE ASKED TO FILL OUT A SURVEY EVERY SUNDAY EVENING. PLEASE DO SO FOR THE YOUNG CHILDREN UP TO GRADE 5. PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILDREN IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL TO FILL IT OUT AS WELL. THIS WILL HELP OUR DOCTORS MANAGE ANY POSSIBLE ISSUES.
7) AST IS DOING ITS UTMOST EFFORT TO KEEP YOUR CHILD SAFE AND FREE OF ANY CONTAGION. WHAT YOU DO OUTSIDE OF AST IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL. OUR STAFF AND CHILDREN NEED TO BE PROTECTED SO PLEASE KEEP THAT IN MIND AS YOU ALLOW ACTIVITIES WHICH DEFEAT WHAT WE ARE DOING INTERNALLY. REMEMBER THE PANDEMIC IS NOT OVER AT ALL AND ONLY WITH PRECAUTION CAN WE CONTINUE TO OPERATE.

I assure you that as soon as we get all the final approvals you will get an email from me. We are ready and excited to start , however all requirements must be met.
Please do not believe any other communication except my email. The news reports as well as verbal communications from staff members are not official notification and only creates confusion.

Dear AST Community,
As you probably saw in the news we are in the process of hybrid reopening.
THE START DATE FOR THIS METHODOLOGY WILL BE ANNOUNCED WHEN ALL PERMISSIONS ARE GRANTED . MY EMAIL WILL BE THE ONLY OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION OF THIS.
AUGUST 9TH WILL START VIRTUAL AS ANNOUNCED EARLIER.
In order to better understand how this will work please read the message completely. Some general guidelines are as follows:
1)The Hybrid modality is not mandatory.
2) The school will continue to provide virtual education until it is needed.
3) If a family decides to allow the children to attend the hybrid modality a waiver MUST be signed liberating AST of any responsibility.
4) The student MUST remain in the chosen modality (Hybrid or Virtual) for the entire semester. No changes can be accommodated.
5) No parents or visitors will be allowed on campus until further notice. Only students and staff members can enter school. Parents or drivers can drop off the students and will not leave their vehicles.
6) We are authorized to have a few hours only of in person school education, the rest must be virtual. Specific schedules will be shared by division.
7) Biosecurity will be observed by all members on campus. Parents must supply each child with surgical or KN95 masks and gel for their personal use. Control of temperature and other procedures will be strictly followed. Por Salud will be handling the medical supervision of the procedures.
8) THE GOVERNMENT OR SCHOOL MAY SUSPEND THE MODALITY DUE TO THE STATE OF EMERGENCY , INCREASE OF CASES AND OTHER PERTINENT SITUATIONS. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT HAS HAPPENED IN OTHER COUNTRIES. SCHOOLS START HYBRID AND NEED TO MOVE TO FULL VIRTUAL AT TIMES. IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND AND BE OPEN TO THIS AS WE MOVE THROUGH THESE STAGES AND CONTINUE IN THE STATE OF EMERGENCY.
9) We may start virtual in some divisions to fully orient the students before moving gradually to the hybrid modality. Not all students will start a hybrid stage at the same time.
10) In the event that more than 50 % of the class wants to participate, we will accommodate students as needed and follow government regulations and conditions.
We understand that deciding to participate in this modality was sent as a survey a few months ago. As conditions have changed this decision might be different for you now. In order to confirm your decision we will hold division webinars and ask you to communicate your final decision after participating in the webinars. Important details of procedures and schedules will be shared in these webinars to help you understand how this will work. Those students confirmed before in the initial survey will have their spot assured if the decision is the same.
These webinars will take place August 6 for preschool and elementary and August 4 for middle and high school. Time will be shared soon and will allow for those families with children in different divisions to attend all needed webinars. It is very important that you participate in these webinars. To ensure that we cover any doubts and inquiries you may have in the webinars, these doubts and inquiries can be emailed to info@amschool.org by August 2.
It is important to stress that this is not the same school we were used to. We must all understand that this is the first step of a new normal school life and we must all cooperate and follow all of the protocols. Safety and health are our priority always.

Para comprender mejor cómo funcionará, lea el mensaje por completo. Algunas pautas generales son las siguientes:

6) Estamos autorizados para impartir unas horas de educación escolar presencial, el resto debe ser virtual. Los horarios específicos se compartirán por división.
7) Todas las personas en el campus observarán de manera obligatoria e incondicional las medidas de bioseguridad pertinentes. Los padres deben proveer diariamente a cada niño mascarillas quirúrgicas o KN95 y gel para su uso personal. Se seguirá estrictamente el control de temperatura y otros procedimientos. PorSalud se hará cargo de la supervisión médica de los trámites.
8) EL GOBIERNO O LA ESCUELA PUEDE SUSPENDER LA MODALIDAD HÍBRIDA POR CAUSAS JUSTIFICADAS DIRECTA O INDIRECTAMENTE RELACIONADAS AL ESTADO DE EMERGENCIA, AUMENTO EN NIVEL DE CONTAGIOS Y DEMÁS PERTINENTES. ESTO ES ALGO QUE YA HA SUCEDIDO EN OTROS PAÍSES LAS ESCUELAS COMIENZAN BAJO MODALIDAD HÍBRIDA Y NECESITAN CAMBIARSE A MODALIDAD VIRTUAL . ES MUY IMPORTANTE SU COMPRENSIÓN, COMPRENDER, SER FLEXIBLES Y ESTAR ABIERTOS A ESTOS CAMBIOS MIENTRAS NOS MOVEMOS EN ESTAS ETAPAS Y CONTINUEMOS BAJO ESTADO DE EMERGENCIA.
9) Podemos comenzar de forma virtual en algunas divisiones para orientar completamente a los estudiantes antes de pasar gradualmente a la modalidad híbrida. No todos los estudiantes comenzarán una etapa híbrida al mismo tiempo.

Dear AST Community,
I share with you the attached document sent to me this morning from SINAGER.
We are not able at this time to start a hybrid stage. Once we get new communications from them I will immediately send you an email.
At this time we will have to start virtual August 9th..
We will continue with the vaccination efforts of the staff that are not vaccinated yet and hope to have everyone ready soon. As of today approximately 77 percent of our staff is vaccinated which is very good. We are ready to go once they give us the go ahead. Webinars are postponed.

1) La modalidad híbrida no es obligatoria.
2) La escuela continuará brindando educación virtual hasta que sea necesario.
3) Si una familia decide que sus niños asistan bajo la modalidad híbrida DEBE firmar un documento liberando a AST de toda responsabilidad.
4) El alumno DEBE permanecer en la modalidad elegida (Híbrido o Virtual) durante el semestre completo. No se pueden acomodar cambios.
5) No se permitirán padres o visitantes en el campus hasta nuevo aviso. Solo los estudiantes y los miembros del personal pueden ingresar a la escuela. Los padres y/o conductores dejarán a los estudiantes y no podrán salir de sus vehículos.
6) Estamos autorizados para impartir unas horas de educación escolar presencial, el resto debe ser virtual. Los horarios específicos se compartirán por división.
7) Todas las personas en el campus observarán de manera obligatoria e incondicional las medidas de bioseguridad pertinentes. Los padres deben proveer diariamente a cada niño mascarillas quirúrgicas o KN95 y gel para su uso personal. Se seguirá estrictamente el control de temperatura y otros procedimientos. PorSalud se hará cargo de la supervisión médica de los trámites.
8) EL GOBIERNO O LA ESCUELA PUEDE SUSPENDER LA MODALIDAD HÍBRIDA POR CAUSAS JUSTIFICADAS DIRECTA O INDIRECTAMENTE RELACIONADAS AL ESTADO DE EMERGENCIA, AUMENTO EN NIVEL DE CONTAGIOS Y DEMÁS PERTINENTES. ESTO ES ALGO QUE YA HA SUCEDIDO EN OTROS PAÍSES LAS ESCUELAS COMIENZAN BAJO MODALIDAD HÍBRIDA Y NECESITAN CAMBIARSE A MODALIDAD VIRTUAL . ES MUY IMPORTANTE SU COMPRENSIÓN, COMPRENDER, SER FLEXIBLES Y ESTAR ABIERTOS A ESTOS CAMBIOS MIENTRAS NOS MOVEMOS EN ESTAS ETAPAS Y CONTINUEMOS BAJO ESTADO DE EMERGENCIA.
9) Podemos comenzar de forma virtual en algunas divisiones para orientar completamente a los estudiantes antes de pasar gradualmente a la modalidad híbrida. No todos los estudiantes comenzarán una etapa híbrida al mismo tiempo.
10) En el caso de que más del 50% de la clase quiera participar, acomodaremos a los estudiantes según sea necesario, siempre siguiendo los lineamientos, términos y condiciones que disponen las autoridades gubernamentales pertinentes.

Estos webinars se llevarán a cabo el 15 de julio para preescolar y primaria y el 16 de julio para media y secundaria. Dear AST Community,
As we near the end of this very different school year, many of you have inquired about the status of next school year.
I will keep you informed over the summer months as to what methodology will be used depending on government authorizations.
We are working on having everything in place for a POSSIBLE Hybrid start in August. Once we have the firm decision from the government we will have orientation webinars as we did at the start of this school year to describe all the details of the program.
It is my hope that we will have all of our staff vaccinated by August and hopefully some of our students 12 years and up.
Please be vigilant about our emails over the coming weeks for re registration, General Assemblies and other important notifications.

We will have a second Health Day April 30th. I hope you and your family will enjoy this day as we gear up for the end of the school year.
Just to clarify we have school Monday April 19th. We observed the April 14th Holiday on April 5th.
Some of you have inquired as to hybrid school starting. We do not have government authorization yet. You will be notified if this is approved. We continue to work on the protocols to be ready when the time comes.

We have all been very much stressed with the reality of living in a pandemic. We are very aware of the many challenges that we have all had this past year.
We have decided to grant a HEALTH DAY next Friday March 26th. No school or any activities will take place. Parent Teacher Conferences will be rescheduled as needed by the teachers in Pre School and Elementary.
Please take this day to enjoy your family , hopefully you may be able to have an outdoor activity with your children. For our teachers please enjoy this well deserved day.

Dear Eagles
The holiday season is upon us and I want to take this time to thank the American School community, students, teachers, and parents for all your hard work and support throughout. Each one of us has proven to be key to our school's success amid incredibly challenging times. No matter what came our way, we never stopped, but instead we worked around it and many times we even made it better.
Holiday celebrations have been very different at AST this school year. We have not basked ourselves with gifts or rejoiced with gatherings as in years past; nonetheless, we have kept the true spirit of the season in our hearts by giving back to others in need, both in the nest, as well as in the community.
If 2020 has taught us something is that good health, hard work, camaraderie, and giving of yourself to others is the very essence of living a good life. We might have had to make sacrifices, and refrained from bountiful celebrations, but better times will come where we will celebrate with pride and might. We have been blessed so far with the health and safety of our students, and that for sure, is reason enough for all of us to celebrate and walk with hope and satisfaction to the New Year, 2021.
2021 marks our school's 75th anniversary. I am sure that 2021 will be a great year to all of us.
We will be back virtually on January 7th. We will stay virtual at least all of the third quarter. In the event that we are authorized to move to another modality we will notify you immediately.
I look forward to working together with all of you, and am sure that as the true Eagles that we are, we will continue to soar high and make a difference wherever we are. See you in January.

La temporada navideña está sobre nosotros y quiero aprovechar este momento para agradecer a la comunidad escolar AST, los estudiantes, los maestros y los padres por todo su arduo trabajo y apoyo durante todo el año. Cada uno de nosotros ha demostrado ser clave para el éxito de nuestra escuela en medio de tiempos increíblemente desafiantes. No importa lo que se nos presente, nunca nos detuvimos, sino que lo solucionamos y muchas veces incluso lo hicimos mejor.
Las celebraciones navideñas han sido muy diferentes en AST este año escolar. No nos hemos deleitado con regalos ni nos hemos regocijado con reuniones como en años pasados; no obstante, hemos mantenido el verdadero espíritu de la temporada en nuestros corazones al retribuir a los necesitados, tanto en el nido como en la comunidad.
Sí 2020 nos ha enseñado algo es que la buena salud, el trabajo duro, el compañerismo y la entrega a los demás es la esencia misma de vivir una buena vida. Probablemente hemos tenido que hacer sacrificios y abstenernos de celebraciones abundantes, pero vendrán tiempos mejores en los que celebraremos con orgullo y poder. Hasta ahora hemos sido bendecidos con la salud y seguridad de nuestros estudiantes, y eso sin duda es razón suficiente para que todos celebremos y caminemos con esperanza y satisfacción por el Año Nuevo de 2021.
2021 marca el 75 aniversario de nuestra escuela. Estoy segura que 2021 será un gran año para todos nosotros.

Dear Eagles:
If there is one thing that the COVID-19 pandemic has reminded us of, is, as the poet and scholar John Donne wrote in his Devotions (1624), that "No man is an island unto himself; each man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main thing. "
With this in mind, and in response to the many requests from the many Eagle families whose finances have been directly affected in the past months, we have started the ALL EAGLES PROTECT THEIR NEST campaign to raise funds for the AST SCHOLARSHIP FUND:COVID -19.
I am proud to share that during the first stage of the campaign, we called upon the AST staff to come together and donate any amount to this cause in order to ensure that all our students remain in the nest. Their response has been impressive, with almost 100% participation and a total of US $ 9,720.00 collected to date. Our teachers and employees are true heroes!
Now we begin the second stage of the campaign and we call on all of our EAGLES (parents, grandparents, alumni, former staff) to join in one of the most important fundraisers we have carried out in the history of our institution. We are confident that with this initiative NO Zoom window will be turned off this school year.
I share with you the many ways you can donate to the cause and on behalf of all the AST staff, I thank you for your constant support during these difficult times.

Si hay algo que la pandemia de COVID-19 nos ha recordado es, como lo expresó el poeta y erudito John Donne en sus Devociones (1624), que "Ningún hombre es una isla en sí mismo; cada hombre es un pedazo del continente, una parte de lo principal ".
Con esto en mente, y como respuesta a las muchas solicitudes de las numerosas familias Eagle cuyas finanzas se han visto directamente afectadas en los últimos cuatro meses, hemos comenzado la campaña TODAS LAS ÁGUILAS PROTEGEN SU NIDO, para recaudar fondos para el FONDO DE BECAS DE AST: COVID -19
Me enorgullece compartir que durante la primera etapa de la campaña, hicimos un llamado al staff de AST, a unirse y apoyar esta causa: la educación de todos nuestros alumnos. La respuesta de los mismos ha sido impresionante, con casi el 100% de participación y un total de US$9,720.00 recolectado al día de hoy. Nuestros maestros y empleados son unos verdaderos héroes.
Ahora entramos a la segunda etapa de la campaña y hacemos un llamado a todos nuestros EAGLES (padres de familia, abuelos, ex alumnos, ex maestros) a unirse a una de las recolectas de fondos más importantes que hemos llevado a cabo en la historia de nuestra institución. Dear parents,
As we continue to prepare for next school year I share important updates.
We will have a webinar in the next week or two to go over our reopening plan. You will be invited to register so you can learn about the procedures and pertinent information for the start of the school year. Please be vigilant for this communication so you are able to register. We will have one in Spanish and a separate one in English to better serve you.
Registration for school year 2020-2021 will begin Monday July 13, 2020 through Monday July 27, 2020. To register your child, all overdue accounts with the School must be paid in full, including the July payment.
As shared in a previous message we have made arrangements with Banco FICOHSA to help those families affected by COVID19 with credit card arrangements as well as loans.
The registration process will be completely ONLINE through a webpage link that will be emailed starting Monday July 13, 2020. It is important that you review all the information, update and fill in all the required or missing information. The ONLINE registration will also include the Medical History Form to be filled out, and the acceptance of the "Agreement between parents and the American School".

Dear Parents,
AST continues to engage in planning meetings with our Administrative Team and Board.
Thank you for returning books and AST materials over the past weeks. We still have quite a bit out and will need this returned before we start the new school year. Please email your child's principal so you can return the needed items.
In the coming weeks we will send the re registration information. This process will be done completely ONLINE. It is important that you review all the information, update what needs to be updated and fill in what is missing.
We do not have any firm instructions from the government on returning to campus. Everything indicates we will start virtually given the current conditions and the priority of protecting the health of our students and staff.. I suggest you explore ways to improve your internet connectivity at home. I attach a message from our technology department to help you in this area.
Soon we will share our revised Distance Learning Plan as well as a special section in our Web page to help you navigate the virtual modality when it is used.
I hope to give you more news as we get them from reliable sources.

Dear parents,
Covid 19 has affected all of us in so many ways. The administration, Board of Directors and Finance Committee have been working diligently on finding a way to help parents during this difficult time.
After reviewing the impact of not having an English Academy subsidizing an approximate amount of $30 per month per student, as well as experiencing higher levels of late payments, financially we are able to support the families in the following way:
Immediate Actions
1) Apply a COVID Relief Fund of $150 in the month of June for every student that does not have a scholarship/discount of any kind. This Relief does not apply to students whose tuition is paid by Third parties like Diplomatic Missions, Financial Institutions or Businesses.This is a one time only credit. If your family is in a better financial position and would like to donate this fund to another family in need, please let me know via an email. This would show solidarity with those more affected than others.
Senior students that have accounts due will have this credited to the account. If the account is fully paid we can apply it to a sibling, donate it to the fund or a transfer to your bank account. Please let us know with an email as well.
2) Credit individual students account for the amount charged during the months of April through July of the transportation charge that every student pays of $8 a month, which adds to a credit of $32 . This excludes the students whose tuition is paid by third parties, as well as those that have scholarships or employment discounts.
3) Credit every student account the monthly charge of $15.12 for Master Plan II during the months of April to July, which adds to a credit of $60.48. This excludes the students whose tuition is paid by third parties, as well as those that have scholarships or employment discounts.
Going forward
4) As expressed before we will not increase tuition for next school year even though bio security and other major distance learning resource costs have to be considered and we are not counting on English Academy getting back to levels pre-COVID soon. Salaries and benefits will have no increases.
5)We will suspend the cost of Master Plan II for next school year for all students without exceptions and resume its charge in School Year 2021-2022.
TOTAL COVID RELIEF FUND $231,097 for School Year 2019-2020 and $251,456 for School Year 2020-2021
Soon we will share options for those families needing help as we are negotiating with Banks low interest loans that families can access as well as credit card options.
Please be aware that we will need all student accounts paid in full in order to re register for next year.

5) Suspenderemos el costo del Plan Maestro II para el próximo año escolar para todos los alumnos sin excepciones y reanudaremos su cargo en el año escolar 2021-2022.

Dear parents and staff,
Our school administration is engaged in finalizing this school year which ends on May 29th. It has been a challenging and interesting period of time. We are proud to say that we succeeded even in these turbulent times. Soon we will communicate our plans to return your child's items from lockers and classrooms.
At the same time that we end this journey we are preparing for the challenges of our return to school next fall. I want to provide a sense of these plans and remind you that this all depends greatly on final government directives for our return to school.
Our intention is to start school as planned on August 10th. In order to do this we need to have our campus completely ready for your children. We are exploring all the biosecurity needs that will have to be in place to have students on campus. Proper orientations will be done on these procedures once they are finalized.
Some parents have asked how the school will operate in the Fall semester. We have several scenarios again being prepared but realistic that we depend on final government directives.
These are possible scenarios we are preparing for:
A) School virtual completely.
B) A Hybrid model with less students on campus due to social distancing requirements and the rest follow virtually at home. The students that start virtually would then be allowed to go to campus and the remainder would do virtual school.
C) all students present with biosecurity measures in place
The logistics will be shared later as to classroom use , teacher and student testing for COVID 19, temperature checks and any other procedure implemented .
In the coming months we will be reviewing and analyzing how we will start, ensuring that the needs of our students and staff health and safety are protected.
I can share that all of our staff has been hired for next school year and we are monitoring border closures for the return of new and returning foreign staff. We are also actively working with new local and international students that are interested in AST. We are very excited to have new teachers and families next school year among our families and staff.
As you can see these plans are a work in progress. Many decisions will occur in phases this summer as we work in accordance to Sinager and the Ministry of Education directives. The decisions and procedures will be shared as they develop. In the meantime I will send a weekly update to keep you informed.

Nos enorgullece decir que tuvimos éxito incluso en estos tiempos turbulentos. Pronto comunicaremos nuestros planes para poder devolver los artículos de su hijo de los casilleros y aulas.
Al mismo tiempo que terminamos este año escolar, nos estamos preparando para los desafíos de nuestro regreso a la escuela el próximo otoño. Quiero dar una idea de estos planes y recordarle que todo esto depende en gran medida de las directivas gubernamentales finales para nuestro regreso a la escuela.
Nuestra intención es comenzar la escuela como estaba previsto el 10 de agosto. Para hacer esto, necesitamos tener nuestro campus completamente listo para sus hijos. Estamos explorando todas las necesidades de bioseguridad que deberán existir para tener estudiantes en el campus. Se realizarán orientaciones adecuadas sobre estos procedimientos una vez que estén finalizados.
Algunos padres han preguntado cómo funcionará la escuela en el semestre de otoño. Tenemos varios escenarios preparados pero realistas de que dependemos de las directivas gubernamentales finales. Estos son posibles escenarios para los que nos estamos preparando:
A) Escuela virtual completamente
B) Un modelo híbrido con menos estudiantes en el campus debido a los requisitos de distanciamiento social y el resto seguir virtualmente en casa. A los estudiantes que comienzan virtualmente se les permitiría ir al campus y el resto iría a la escuela virtual.
C) todos los estudiantes presentes con medidas de bioseguridad implementadas.
La logística en cuanto al uso de aulas, las pruebas de maestros y estudiantes para COVID 19, los controles de temperatura, se compartirán así como otros procedimientos que se implementaran.
En los próximos meses estaremos revisando y analizando cómo comenzaremos, asegurando que las necesidades de salud y seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y personal estén protegidas.
Puedo compartir que todo nuestro personal ha sido contratado para el próximo año escolar y estamos monitoreando la frontera cierres por el retorno de personal extranjero. También estamos trabajando activamente con nuevos estudiantes locales e internacionales interesados en AST. Estamos muy emocionados de tener nuevos maestros y familias el próximo año escolar entre nuestras familias y el personal.
Como pueden ver, estos planes son un trabajo en progreso. Muchas decisiones ocurrirán en fases este verano a medida que trabajemos de acuerdo con las directivas de Sinager y del Ministerio de Educación. Las decisiones y procedimientos se compartirán a medida que se desarrollen. Mientras tanto, enviaré una actualización semanal para mantenerlos informado.

La pandemia COVID 19 ha causado muchos desbalances en nuestras familias, empresas y nuestra escuela. El presente comunicado es para darles una actualización, sobre algunas decisiones que hemos tenido que tomar.
La escuela ha tenido pilares fundamentales en la toma de decisión para afrontar esta crisis, las cuales enumeramos abajo:
1. Preservar la vida y salud de sus alumnos, profesores y colaboradores a todo nivel.
2. Al haberse agudizado la crisis de salud que conlleva una crisis financiera, la escuela ha querido tomar las mejores decisiones en favor de las personas afectadas, a su vez siendo responsables y tomando algunas decisiones difíciles para garantizar la sostenibilidad financiera de la escuela.
3. Por lo anterior, se ha tenido que retirar cierto personal, y al regresar a una operación bajo la "nueva normalidad" se buscaría lo más pronto posible la contratación del personal que ha trabajado anteriormente en la escuela, que se le aprecia y que conocen y cuidan de nuestros hijos.
La repentina disminución de los ingresos de la Academia de Inglés y la acelerada alza en mora, nos ha llevado a actuar pronto y tener que prescindir de personal de la Cafetería como de la Academia de Inglés. Ambas eran autosostenibles, y al no tener ingresos por no haber actividad, no hay forma de seguir manteniendo una carga fija tan alta sin operación ni definición a corto plazo de cuando pudiesen iniciar nuevamente.
Las difíciles, inesperadas y dolorosas decisiones tomadas por la escuela fueron ampliamente evaluadas por la Administración y la Junta Directiva pensando en el bienestar de las personas y en la mejor alternativa considerando la situación actual sin precedente alguno. Se tiene que tomar acciones oportunas para evitar situaciones más complicadas a futuro.Cada una de las decisiones se ha tomado responsablemente y de acuerdo a ley.

Dear parents,
I hope that you are doing great and staying healthy.
I have received many comments regarding virtual learning and some concerns regarding times that teachers are face to face with students among some of them.
Virtual learning will never be the same as the school experience that we had before March 13th. We need to understand that there are pedagogical reasons why a teacher can not and will not be on Zoom teaching students from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.
I attach below an article from the Illinois School Board which explains in easy terms what is appropriate depending on the age of the child. This gives you an idea of why we are handling virtual school combining face to face sessions as well as other resources.
I understand that one might want to compare AST to other schools that might be doing things in a different way, however I ask you to trust that what we are doing is what is best for your child. We work according to international norms and will not place your child in experiences that are not proven to be age appropriate.
I thank you for your patience as this unprecedented experience has forced us to see what we do in our professional and personal lives in new innovative ways.
We will continue to analyze and adapt as we continue with this end of the school year. I will update you as we get information moving forward.

He recibido muchos comentarios sobre el aprendizaje virtual y algunas preocupaciones sobre el tiempo que los maestros se encuentran cara a cara con los estudiantes entre algunos de ellos.
El aprendizaje virtual nunca será lo mismo que la experiencia escolar que tuvimos antes del 13 de marzo. Necesitamos entender que hay razones pedagógicas por las cuales un maestro no puede y no estará en Zoom enseñando a los estudiantes de 7:30 a.m. a 2:30 p.m.
Adjunto a continuación un artículo de la Junta Escolar de Illinois que explica en términos sencillos qué es apropiado según la edad del niño. Esto le da una idea de por qué estamos manejando la escuela virtual combinando sesiones presenciales y otros recursos.
Entiendo que es posible que desee comparar AST con otras escuelas que podrían estar haciendo las cosas de una manera diferente, sin embargo, le pido que confíe en que lo que estamos haciendo es lo mejor para su hijo.
Trabajamos de acuerdo con las normas internacionales y no colocaremos a su hijo en experiencias que no hayan demostrado ser apropiadas para su edad.

Dear AST community,
We know that the current situation has affected all citizens worldwide in one way or another. It is an unprecedented situation and for which no one was prepared.
We admire and praise the dedication and effort made by those who are at the forefront of this war against Covid19.
We thank again our administrative and teaching staff for continuing the process of educating our children.
We thank our parents for their understanding and effort to adapt to the proposed solutions and always achieve the goal of continuing to educate our children with excellence. It is of utmost importance to have the necessary technological and human resources to be able to continue, which represent financial commitments to fulfill.
We share that we continue to look for ways to improve how virtual education develops. There are always opportunities for improvement in this methodology, but it is clear that it is not a quick process that can be perfected or improved to the level that we all want to reach. We are confident that, together with our teaching and administrative staff, we will be able to offer the best possible experience to our children.
To date, we have honored our salary and contractual commitments despite not having the tuition revenue from the English Academy, which as everyone knows is a significant tuition subsidy.
The future is uncertain, what we are clear about is that we have to prepare ourselves and our children to continue adapting in the future. We have to honor our financial and contractual commitments, so we remind everyone to continue making your tuition payments on time. We do not want to affect our staff, or jeopardize the availability of technological and logistical resources that are critical to continue providing education to our children.
The Board of Directors and the Administration of the School, works hard reviewing all the budget lines with the firm objective of reducing and realigning expenses and thus avoiding an increase in tuition for the next school year, which we consider achievable if we all do our part applying measures such as: timely payments of current tuition, reduction and adjustment of expenses to only essential; since we are all aware of the current situation and possible scenarios that may occur in the future.
We know that there may be special situations in some families, these cases will be reviewed individually, for which we ask that you contact Mrs. Jenkins as soon as possible.

Sabemos que la situación actual ha afectado a todos los ciudadanos a nivel mundial de una forma u otra. Es una situación sin precedentes y para la cual nadie estaba preparado.
Admiramos y alabamos la dedicación y el esfuerzo que hacen día a día los que están en primera línea en esta guerra contra el Covid19.
Agradecemos nuevamente a nuestro personal administrativo y docente por continuar con el proceso de educación de nuestros hijos.
Agradecemos a nuestros padres de familia por su comprensión y esfuerzo para adaptarnos a las soluciones propuestas y lograr siempre el objetivo de continuar educando a nuestros hijos con excelencia. Es de suma importancia el contar con los recursos tecnológicos y humanos necesarios para poder seguir adelante, los cuales representan compromisos económicos que cumplir.
Compartimos que seguimos buscando maneras de mejorar cómo se desarrolla la educación virtual. El futuro es incierto, lo que sí tenemos claro es que tenemos que prepararnos y preparar a nuestros hijos para continuar adaptándonos en el futuro. Tenemos que cumplir con nuestros compromisos financieros y contractuales, por lo cual les recordamos a todos que continúen haciendo sus pagos de colegiaturas a tiempo. No queremos afectar a nuestro personal, ni poner en riesgo la disponibilidad de los recursos tecnológicos y logísticos que son críticos para continuar brindando la educación a nuestros hijos.
La Junta Directiva y la Administración de la Escuela, trabaja arduamente revisando todas las líneas de presupuesto con el firme objetivo de reducir y adecuar gastos y así evitar un incremento en la colegiatura del próximo año escolar, lo cual consideramos lograble si todos ponemos de nuestra parte aplicando medidas como: pagos oportunos de las actuales colegiaturas, reducción y readecuación de gastos a solo esenciales; ya que todos estamos conscientes de la situación actual y los posibles escenarios que puedan darse a futuro.
Sabemos que puede haber situaciones especiales en algunas familias, estos casos serán revisados individualmente, para lo cual les pedimos que a la brevedad se comuniquen con Mrs. Jenkins.

Dear Parents,
Despite all the uncertainty brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic in our country, and in the world, I feel proud to be leading a ship that has worked non-stop against all adversity from day one.
I must point out that our staff members have proven to be key to keeping this ship afloat. They have embraced online teaching and continue to amaze us with the use of creative tools to motivate their students. (Thank you Teachers Organization for putting together a wonderful video to motivate our Eagles.) The staff has been there for all of us practically 24-7, many times even putting aside their own family strife and fears. Their stance in this emergency has only motivated us to continue this course and to provide them with the best online resources. Teachers are not only teaching and preparing their virtual lessons, but are also taking different courses to teach online efficiently. Fortunately, the school has received support from educational sources including a donation of teaching licenses for the ZOOM video application, from important partners such as AASSA ( Association of American Schools of South America) and the State Department of the United States of America. Our teaching staff also continues to maximize the use of Google Classroom and G-Suite, as they perfect the skills recently acquired in the Google certification course. All our teachers are certified Level 1 Google instructors. On this topic, I do remind you however, to feel free to contact your children’s teachers via email if you have any concerns or questions whatsoever. All administrators are also just one email away. We are here to help each other out.
I am also proud of the many displays of empathy shown by the eagle community. So far, and as a result of many student-led initiatives, just last week, we were able to donate the total amount of L120,000.00 to different governmental entities that are working hard to keep our country safe. As I write this, we have several requests from the different clubs and grades (all areas), for authorization to donate the money they have collected throughout the school year, in order to support this emergency. We, as a school, also continue to take care of our own. Our Business Office continues to make sure everybody receives their salaries in a timely manner. We continue to pay our service providers, such as the security and cleaning companies, to make sure their employees are taken care of as well. Our staff has also united in helping other staff members (in particular our General Services and Dining Hall personnel) who might be facing more challenging times than most of us, by making monetary donations through the Business Office directly to their accounts. It is amazing how everybody is working together to help, with no competition, no spotlight, and with one sole purpose - beating the CORONAVIRUS 19 pandemic so we can all be together again.
Uncertainty, unfortunately, is the key word through all these times. I thank everybody for their patience and collaboration through all this. We are working closely with the Ministry of Education and awaiting a governmental mandate to determine when we will go back to school. So far, nobody knows. We truly do not know when this will take place.
To the Class of 2020, our beloved Seniors. I know that these troubled times were not even remotely in any of your thoughts at the beginning of the school year. You have been affected a little bit more than the other grades with the uncertainty of the end of the school year activities, very important to you as you finish an important stage in your scholarly life. I promise we will make sure to give you a little bit back of your well-deserved thunder by being ready with a Virtual Graduation Ceremony, if we are not allowed to return to school by May 28th. We are truly analyzing this possibility and we see ourselves making it happen. We will be ready for this plan B. Nonetheless, we pray that this pandemic will be solved and contained by then.
Class of 2020 - most of you have been accepted to colleges all around the world and we will continue to celebrate and share your accomplishments with the school community via social media and emails once we have all the information collected. You are all very important to all of us. If you have any concerns or questions, I am also just an email away.

Dear AST Community,
For more than 70 years AST has been providing education to create more socially- aware citizens of the world .Today we are faced with a worldwide pandemic that is affecting every single one of us. Through this tragedy we have been able to see the light of the AST community spreading to help those around them. So many grades have been donating a large part of their school funds to those in need and have reminded us of what truly embodies the AST community. Many of our families have been affected in one way or another and pray that we are able to return to regular routines soon.
AST has been able to continue operating virtually to ensure that our students can finish this school year without sacrificing quality or content. We thank our teachers and administration for their commitment to do their best in these difficult times. We thank our students for their willingness to learn and be flexible amid these tumultuous times. Some of our very important activities like the English Academy have been affected and we hope to be able to achieve our goals in this very important area of our school in the near future.
We are proud to share that we have been able to help our maintenance, security and cafeteria employees by donating the food we had in inventory. Our employees are very thankful for this needed support and we continue trying to help in all the ways we can. We have been able to pay all salaries and commitments without exceptions so far and will continue to do so. It is very important that we continue to do this as our children’s education and their future is our priority.
Our students and parents have been doing their part by donating medical equipment to different hospitals, acting as true EAGLES. Thank you AST family!
On behalf of the Board of Directors we hope that your families are healthy and that we can see each other soon. Now more than ever as we crave to have the AST community back together, to see our seniors have their beloved last moments together in school and looking towards the future, we must help each other in all the ways we can. Not just to our AST community but to our Honduran community, as so many Eagles have been doing so far.

Por más de 70 años, AST ha estado brindando educación para crear ciudadanos del mundo con mayor conciencia social. Hoy nos enfrentamos a una pandemia mundial que nos afecta a todos. A través de esta tragedia, hemos podido ver la luz de la comunidad de AST extendiéndose para ayudar a quienes están a su alrededor. Muchos grados han estado donando una gran parte de sus fondos escolares a los más necesitados y nos han recordado lo que realmente es la comunidad AST.
Muchas de nuestras familias se han visto afectadas de una forma u otra y pedimos a Dios pronto podamos volver a estar juntos. AST ha podido continuar operando virtualmente para garantizar que nuestros estudiantes puedan terminar este año escolar sin sacrificar calidad ni contenidos. Agradecemos a nuestros maestros y equipo administrativo por su compromiso y dedicación en estos tiempos difíciles. Agradecemos a nuestros estudiantes por su disposición a aprender y ser flexibles en estos tiempos de turbulencia. Algunas de nuestras actividades importantes como la Academia de Inglés, se han visto afectadas y esperamos poder retomar las actividades en el futuro cercano en esta área de tanta relevancia para AST. Nos alegra poder compartir que hemos podido ayudar a nuestros empleados de mantenimiento, seguridad y cafetería al donar los alimentos que habían en nuestro inventario de cafetería.
