The Organising Committee looks forward to welcoming you to the Mondo Acustica 2025 Conference to be held Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th September 2025 at the Amorim workshop located steps from the Museo del Violino in Cremona, Italy.
The conference aims to bring makers and scientists to not only share their experience, but purposely think about the future of these two crafts: instrument making and its scientific research. For too long, instrument makers have relied only on intuition, while scientists have offered abstract ideas that don't connect with real making. A true conversation between the two worlds hasn’t happened because each has stayed within its own comfort zone. We want to transform this by transforming the way in which we perform research and education in the field of musical acoustics.

Grew up in a violin making atelier, spending much of his childhood playing with wood and small tools and very early on developing aptitude, skill and passion for this field. At age of five, he began his studies of flute and at eight violin studies, also participating in the Suzuki Orchestra of Curitiba. He built his first violin at age 15 and since then, along with his father and master, Luiz Amorim, continues to evolve and improve his making. In addition to his academic studies in Foreign Trade at Positivo University, he did courses in drawing and painting, studied violin making at the Academia Cremonensis, worked alongside Filippo Fasser and has been strengthening his work through participation in competitions, workshops and exhibitions around the world.
A physicist by training, earned his PhD in the Netherlands before a chance encounter with a 13th-generation family of violin makers from Germany stirred his fascination for the craft. This new interest, coupled with his experience running a guitar shop in Valparaiso, Chile, led him to Cremona, Italy in 2019. There, he delved into the acoustics of musical instruments at the Politecnico di Milano. Now, Sebastian combines his technical expertise with his love for music, utilising computer simulations, artificial intelligence, and hands-on experiments to unravel the mechanics behind the unique sound of the violin.
