Spring 2016
Dear Fraters and Sorors,
One of the central hallmarks of the Rosicrucian path is the incredible variety of mystical experience that it offers. The experiments presented in our monographs are many and varied; far more than that--they are portals within portals, doorways within doorways. They lead to the threshold of the mystical goal of the most sublime and profound peace. They infallibly lead, step by step, to an unthinkable realization of peace profound. They can be used in combination with other exercises or as stand alone activities. They are all essential to the progress of the Rosicrucian. They help bring about a state of attunement, an elevated consciousness, a harmonium.
To make true progress they must be practiced. Our former Imperator, Dr. H Spencer Lewis, felt that, if a student practiced rigorously as indicated in the monographs, their employ would bring the student to the very threshold of enlightenment within six years time.
What does that mean? Let us briefly approach the science of mysticism.
The experiments are science in the making and, like any scientific endeavor, methods evolve. Like traditional science, there exists a community of peers, of mystics on the path. They , because of their experience , can help you understand yours. They assist in your validation of what was hitherto unexperienced, unknown, unfelt, and unimagined. As a result, new combinations of exercises are discovered; cycles of activity emerge. Strengths and weaknesses appear and gain attention as they are recognized, improved, utilized and integrated into the emergent Self.
We now know that the participant in any experiment can and does affect the outcome. This is never more true than in the mystical laboratory of Self.
Some guidelines might be helpful. First, practice the experiments as presented. If the monographs suggest practicing morning and night, do so. If they suggest every morning, do so. If certain lighting is recommended it, establish it. All of this builds the strength of the psychic body, that subconscious manifestation of Self. That Self longs to be released, to manifest its energy and goodness on our magnificent planet. The exercises quicken contact with that same Master Within. While reading may pique the imagination, only mystical experience can transform it. Most importantly, never interrupt. When the inner Self speaks, listen and never intrude with what you think or what you thought you knew to be true according to some intellectual explanation. Let the inner Self speak. It longs for our attention, rather than to hear what we have to offer it. The inner Self knows. The outer self hopes to know.
So finally, and perhaps most importantly, regular practice of the experiments helps the outer self cooperate with this interior all knowing dynamo. The two become friends. They act increasingly as one as they help each other express who they both long to be, the inner Self gaining voice and the outer self gaining an infinitely emergent and sublime peace.
With all best wishes for your most profound peace,
John Fowler, FRC
