A.R. Reading Information

Daily Reading Homework:

Your child should read his or her "Good Fit" Accelerated Reader book each night for at least 20 min. (Monday-Thursday).  Your child should bring the book back to school each day to read in class as time allows.

*****This book could be a book from school, your home library, or EPIC. Use A.R. Book Finder  to find out if a book from your collection is a "good fit" for you! Use the level highlighted on your goal paper to select books that are a good fit for your child.

*****After reading the entire book carefully,  your child should take the "Practice Quiz" for the book at school to earn points.  Picture books are worth half a point while chapter books vary from one point to 4 or 5 points depending on length and complexity.  Note:  A.R. quizzes can only be taken at school during the school day.

Our first quarter goal is to earn at least 10 A. R. points by Oct. 19th, which is the last day of the quarter.  This will be part of your child's reading grade.  (There will be opportunities to earn some A.R. points from books we read together in class as well as from independent reading.)

Please note: Each student must have at least 10 A.R. points each quarter of third grade!!!!!  Your child will receive a personalized goal for the second, third, and fourth quarters. Reading goals are based on reading ability at the beginning of each quarter. You can monitor this on his or her A.R. using the tracker bookmark.  Each star colored by your student equals one A.R. point earned.  At ten points, your student will be given a new point tracker bookmark. Thank you!  Happy Reading!

Fluency Homework:

The students will reread the poem(s) or readers theater/plays that we worked on in class at home with an adult for this homework assignment. An adult must sign or initial the corner of the paper after the student practices reading it to him or her for homework credit!  Be sure to place it back in the take home folder and return it to school the next day. Students must come to class prepared to read the selection(s) aloud!  This homework is NOT timed.
