Welcome to Sixth Grade!

This year in science we will cover many different topics and have fun!

Science Topics:

* Science Safety, The Scientific Method, and Microscope Use.

* Life Science Unit which deals with Plant Cells, Animal Cells, Mitosis and Meiosis.

(Also naming and explaining the parts and functions of cells and phases)

* Rocks and Minerals Unit which includes types of rocks and minerals, how each was

formed, plate tectonics and the Rock Cycle.

* In the soil unit we learn about soil horizons (levels), soil conservation, ways to

protect our soil for future use.

* Nature of Matter and Energy Unit focuses of the Periodic Table of Elements,

renewable and nonrenewable energy, matter, atoms, elements and

compounds.

* Physical and Chemical Changes including Acids and Bases will also be a sixth grade

topic.

Students MUST HAVE a spiral notebook for Science and a three prong two pocket folder for class.

Please be sure these are separate from your other class materials.
