Seventh grade mathematics marks a significant shift from concrete arithmetic concepts (whole number and fractional operations) to more abstract algebraic concepts. Students will have varied opportunities to demonstrate the three key elements of mathematical rigor: procedural fluency, conceptual understanding, and authentic application. Learning opportunities presented will also further develop students’ understanding and use of the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice:
Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
Reason abstractly and quantitatively
Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
Model with mathematics
Use appropriate tools strategically
Attend to precision
Look for and make use of structure
Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
