Materials Needed:
Lesson Book: Essential Techniques (Green Trim), Books are intended for specific instruments, make sure you have the book with the correct instrument name at the top.
Rosin: Used for bows, there will be some available for classroom use, but students will need it for home use.
Shoulder Rest: (violin/viola) We will be starting shifting exercises in 7th grade, and a shoulder rest/pad makes the process of learning this new skill possible. There are various styles and makes, we have various styles at school that students can try or if purchasing at a store, bring your instrument with to find one that is comfortable.
Strings - Strings break with use and need to be replaced. You may choose to purchase strings from the store and we will be happy to put them on the instrument for you OR you may ask us to replace the string and then reimburse us for the cost of the string. ALL SCHOOL OWNED INSTRUMENTS MUST PURCHASE STRINGS THROUGH US. We are happy to replace strings as long as we are reimbursed for the string in a timely manner.
Rehearsal Expectations:
Students are asked to arrive promptly, and get necessary items for rehearsal. At the beginning of the year we will begin the learning process behind tuning our instruments. Electronic tuners will be available for students who wish to use them before class begins. Students will be given music intended for rehearsal and concert use, they are expected to keep track of the music and their book and bring them to rehearsals. Students are responsible for their music, if they loose or misplace music, they will have to ask for another copy of their part. If a student has forgotten their music and book, I will have a small supply available, but encourage students to bring their music so they can, as I may ask them to, mark items to be practiced or call attention to.
