PYP Curriculum Maps
PYP Programme of Inquiry
The Programme of Inquiry document gives a brief overview of the main aspects of inquiry for each of the units for Nursery to Grade 5. Please note that these are not in time order, but the rough timings are listed at the bottom of each chart.
Curriculum Maps
Curriculum Maps provide information about the overall aims of each Unit of Inquiry. Teachers use these documents to guide planning for each Unit and across the year in order to develop conceptual understandings, knowledge, skills and attitudes in each curricular area. By sharing these Curriculum Maps with parents we are providing you with an overview of the possible areas of learning within a Unit of Inquiry.
Below you can find links to all Curriculum Maps. At the beginning of a new unit the Curriculum Maps are updated and shared with parents by email. Therefore the Curriculum Maps here will regularly updated to reflect developments in the programme.
When reading the curriculum, it is good to bear in mind the following points:
The map is not a prescriptive list of everything that will be covered in a Unit of Inquiry - Inquiry (learning driven by curiosity, questions and practical explorations) is at the heart of everything we do. Teachers incorporate student interest and questions into the learning of each class which means that learning experiences may vary slightly between the classes.
Not all students show the same understanding - Students are unique and have different needs and abilities. Teachers assess and respond to individual children and the teaching points in the Curriculum Maps, these help teachers modify the learning.
Curriculum learning objectives and understandings are revisited throughout the year - Many of the teaching points within the Curriculum Maps are continued throughout the year. Therefore all students will not necessarily achieve the objectives within the specified time period.
