Rules & Procedures

The guidelines for this classroom are voted on in class, however, there will be guidelines that WILL be followed in Coach Franke’s classroom. These are not negotiable.

1. No food or drink in the classroom, except for bottled water.

**If your bottled water becomes a distraction, you may be asked to remove it.

2. Keep your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.

3. Follow ALL directions the first time they are given.

4. Use appropriate language and voice level.

5. Be in your seat and working when the tardy bell rings.

**Students not following these, and other guidelines noted in the student code of conduct and student handbook will be subject to consequences.

The procedures that are to be followed in this classroom at all times are as follows:

1. Enter the room and take a seat. Get out supplies need for class. This should be done well before the tardy bell rings.

2. Sit in your assigned seat and begin working. Most of the time, you will continue working on an assignment from the day before. However, should we be starting something new, you can prepare yourself for your next test by reviewing your notes. Repetition of information is important. Read through your notes as much as you can. You will have a notebook that you will keep in class that contains all of this information.

3. After Coach Franke takes attendance, we will begin the day’s lesson. From time to time, you will need a textbook for class. I will keep a class set of textbooks in my room. It is also available online. If you wish to have a textbook to carry with you or take home, you will need to check one out from the library. Most work is done in class. We rarely have homework. This is so I can be here to help you, but you will be required to study outside of class. Learning is your job. Teaching is mine. If we are covering something in class that you do not understand, please speak up and let me know that you don’t get it. This does not mean that you have to embarrass yourself. You can always talk to me privately. If you are not learning from the way I teach, then you must teach me how you learn!!! In other words, let me know when you don’t get it.

4. You MUST come to class with supplies. I keep some spare pens and pencils, but I don’t guarantee that I will always have something for you to borrow. You will ALWAYS need paper and a pen or pencil. This is not an option. A carpenter could no do his job without a hammer and nails, just as you cannot learn and complete tasks without pen and paper. I will provide a place in class for you to store your class folder and notebook. You may keep it here, if you are not very good at keeping up with things. This is also an excellent place to store extra paper for class.

5. All assignments must be completed and submitted in a timely manner. Late work will always be accepted, but you will receive a penalty for late work. For excessively late work, you will not be able to receive higher than a 70. This will ultimately be left at my discretion. I will decide how many points should be taken off. Zeros are unacceptable. I will hold you to a higher standard. If you have missing assignments in my class, you will lose your social time (flex) to get it completed. This is to ensure your success. It is not a punishment, but a way to help to keep you passing and on the right track. I do not give lower than 50 on any assignment. 50% of your success in this class is based on getting your work completed and turned in. The other 50% depends on the effort you put into it. We are ALL capable of greatness. We just have to work at it!!!

6. Failure is not an option. If you need help, see me and I will do everything in my power to get you where you want and need to be. I am always here, and my door is always open. You can email me in the evenings, if I am not at school. Don’t ever feel like you can’t come to me for help. I will help you with anything you need in this class, or any other class, as well.

7. Grades in this class will be weighted according to the guidelines set in your student handbook.

8. RESPECT is a must!!! Disrespect of adults or students in the building will not be tolerated. I will not accept bullying of others. I will not accept rude or disruptive behavior. We are here for fun and acceptance. When you enter this room, you are a team. Each team member is vital to the success of the class. Encourage and respect each other. Always respect me and the people in my classroom.

10. Things that will not be tolerated in class:

• Excessive talking

• Off-task behavior

• Out of seat without permission

• Other minor class disruptions

Other disciplinary actions are outlined in the student handbook/code-of-conduct.

**I am looking forward to a great year. Stay on your toes, be here, and have fun while learning. That is all I ask.
