Dr. Ronald E. McNair Junior High

Remote Learning

A new way of learning . . .

The McNair staff has been diligently working to design content for virtual learning. It is our goal to provide high quality educational opportunities through digital learning. Remote learning will present challenges and over the next few weeks we ask for your understanding and flexibility as we determine the best way to meet the educational needs of each student in this new learning environment.

Teachers will be using Google Classroom to send out assignments and to communicate expectations. Every student has a Google account that can be used to access Google Classroom. Many teachers have been using Google Classroom already and students are familiar with the format. If you need help please view this brief Google Classroom Presentation. The video makes reference to a standardized AISD password, however, junior high students were required to create their own passwords for cyber security. Should your child need assistance with their password, please reach out to our librarian Mrs. Kettler.

Students can reach teachers in class Google Hangouts for questions, comments and concerns at the times highlighted below.

Please feel free to reach out via email and Google Classroom as well.

Assignment Expectations

Weekly assignments will be posted for each classroom teacher on Fridays by 4:00 pm and assignments will be due back by the following Friday at 4pm. Please email your students teacher if you have any questions about Google Classroom or need the classroom codes. We understand that many parents will be working from home and students need flexibility with in their schedules to complete assignments. Students should be committing approximately 3 hours a day or more to their remote learning experience .

Online student work must be submitted by the due date, Friday at 4pm of the week it is assigned. If you do not have internet access and are completing your work offline, you can drop it off Monday or Wednesday from 8am-12pm during office hours, or Fridays from 8am-4pm in the bin by the schools front door. If you submit work in the work bin, please be sure your name is on the assignments and put it in a ziplock baggie or plastic sack to help protect it from the elements.

Beginning the week of March 30th, teachers may report up to two grades per week over distance learning or assigned work packets. One grade can be a completion grade and one grade can be assigned to report mastery of content. All grades will be weighted equally as daily grades. Please note that Alvin ISD will only use grades to help students and no grades will be used negatively to impact student averages or negatively affect GPA.

Teachers will be providing times that they will be available to students to answer any questions. This will be posted in their Google Classrooms.
