(Note: Students enrolled in APA Reading & MAP Humanities are assigned a required summer reading assignment. The Summer CHOICE Reading is additional reading opportunity for APA and MAP students.)
ALL ON-LEVEL STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO PARTICIPATED IN THE CHOICE OPPORTUNITY.
Reading Motivation: What Research Says...
Researchers have identified a number of factors important to reading motivation including self-concept and value of reading; choice; time spent talking about books; types of text available, and the use of incentives (Gambrell and Marinak). Allowing young children to make a minimal task choice increases learning from task enhanced subsequent interest in the activity (Cordova & Lepper, 1996: Iyengar & Leppar, 1999).

Students are strongly students to read a book of their CHOICE because reading makes EVERY learning experience RICH.
If you complete the 2022 Summer CHOICE Reading assignment, you will receive a "Golden Ticket" from your reading teacher!
"Golden Ticket" - 1 free daily grade pass that can be used at any point during the first semester and 1 yummy treat.
