Open communication is very important to me as your child's teacher, and I encourage you to please reach out to me anytime you have a question or concern. I will be reaching out to you often with updates on how your child is doing, their successes, and if there are any concerns with academics and/or behavior. Classroom news will be posted via Class Dojo each week on Friday with information about what we are learning in class, upcoming dates, and reminders about things happening in our classroom and at Pomona. The best method of communication with me is through email or Class Dojo messaging.
Part of my teaching philosophy is I strongly believe it is important for my students to have fun after school and enjoy their extracurricular activities and family time. With that being said, I also know extra practice on the concepts we are learning in class are beneficial, especially since our class time and days are so fast paced. My homework policy this school year will be for each student to complete ONE lesson of Imagine Language and Literacy each night, Monday-Thursday. This is a digital resource designed in a game format that follows what we are learning in class and gives the students extra practice. It will not take your student long to complete this assignment, each lesson takes around 20-30 minutes to complete. Participation and completion will be monitored daily. The students can access Imagine Language & Literacy through Clever.
Students will their own Daily Folder they are responsible for bringing home for you to look at and back to school each day. The daily folder will have your student's conduct card, school communication, and any assignments that may need to be completed or corrected. Graded papers will be sent home on Tuesdays along with a signature sheet. Please sign the signature sheet each Tuesday to let me know that you have received your student's graded work.
Pomona Elementary is a Capturing Kid's Hearts National Showcase Campus. This means we are committed to building positive, productive relationships with our students. We have a student created Social Contract in our classroom that lists our goals as to how we will treat each other. Each student will sign the contract upon completion as their commitment to follow it. The Social Contract is reviewed daily during our morning meeting, and the students always have the opportunity to give feedback on how they think our Social Contract commitments are going and rate our behavior at the end of the class period. Below are the questions we discuss to build our Social Contract:
How do you want to treat each other?
How do I (the teacher) want to be treated by you (the students)?
How do you (the students) want to be treated by me (the teacher)?
How will we treat each other when there is conflict?
When student are not following the Social Contract, there are a series of four questions I ask:
What are you doing?
What are you supposed to be doing?
Are you doing it?
What are you going to do about it?
If students do not follow classroom procedures and/or the social contract, consequences may include:
Loss of Dojo Points
Logical Consequences (apology letters, loss of privileges, working alone, etc.)
Conduct Mark
Parent Contact
Office Referral
