Desmos is an online Graphing Calculator availabe for FREE.
Algebra 1 will use the Desmos Texas STAAR (seen below)
All other math classes will use Desmos PSAT/SAT/AP
This calculator is a built-in option in the Algebra 1 STAAR EOC exam as well as the online PSAT and SAT administration. As a result, it is important that student use this tool consistently in class and at home.
TI Nspire CX/CXII & CAS Calculators
Alvin ISD is excited to be able to provide students with a TI Nspire CX or CX II calculator in all High School Math courses (including courses at Junior High) while in class (not for home use). This is a handheld back up calculator for students if an online calculator is not available.
Students that chose to use a campus assigned calculator in class must sign a calculator contract to ensure responsible use.

Purchasing a TI Handset
There are two models of the TI Nspire - CX/CX II and CAS (see images at right).
CAS stands for "Computer Algebra System" and encompasses features for advanced graphing and solving abstract concepts. See guidance based on exams below.
Guidance
No handset is required to be purchased. Desmos is a free online calculator (see above) that can be accessed from a variety of devices. If students feel they want their own, note the testing regulations below.
TI Nspire CX/CX II - allowed on STAAR (in test mode) and on ACT. All junior high and high school campuses supply students with this model upon signing their calculator use contract.
TI Nspire CAS - allowed on SAT and AP math exams.
College Board SAT & AP exams however WILL allow for any TI Nspire CX or CAS device.
ACT will allow only the TI Nspire CX (no CAS)
