Mr. Jason Brown

Mr. Brown is beginning his twelfth year of teaching and his second year with G.W. Harby Junior High band family and Alivn ISD. 

Mr. Brown began his teaching career at Wallace Middle School in Kyle, Texas, where he was the Symphonic Band director from 2012-2017. He also taught beginning Trumpet, Euphonium, Tuba, Trombone, Horn, Flute, and Double Reed classes there. While at Wallace, Mr. Brown established a tradition of UIL Sweepstakes with the program’s Non-Varsity Band. In 2016 and 2017, the Wallace Middle School Symphonic Band was named a Commended Winner for the Citation of Excellence Award presented by the Foundation for Music Education.

In 2017, Mr. Brown joined the Cedar Park Middle School Band team where he continued to teach beginning brass, and had the opportunity to teach beginning Saxophone. In 2018, the Cedar Park Middle School Concert Band was recognized as a Winner of the Citation of Excellence Award by the Foundation for Music Education. While Mr. Brown was at Cedar Park the program was recognized by the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and he had the pleasure of conducting the Symphonic Group in Chicago. 

Mr. Brown holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2012. While at Texas State, he served as principal tuba in the Symphonic Band under the direction of Dr. Caroline Beatty. He was also a member of the Bobcat Marching Band for three years, serving as tuba section leader in 2009. Additionally, he served as President of the Theta Alpha chapter of the Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and he marched with the 2008 Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Brown’s professional affiliations include the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association. He has also served as a Region Band Clinician and as a staff member at the Texas State University and the Baylor University Band Camps.

Mr. Brown currently lives in League City with his cat Shredder and his dogs Parker and Braxton. When he is not teaching he enjoys exploring the outdoors, weight lifting and cooking. He is grateful to his friends and mentors in the Band Director community who have helped him grow as a professional.



Mrs. Leah Steffensky

             Ms. Steffensky is entering her 16th year of teaching, having served 11 years as a band director in Pasadena ISD. This will be Ms. Steffensky's 5th year at Harby Junior High in Alvin ISD.

Ms. Steffensky received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She Studied Flute under Nina Assimakopoulos.  During her time at Bowling Green, she was Vice President of Service for Tau Beta Sigma, an honorary music sorority and served as the university's Drum major her junior and senior year. In addition to playing Flute, Ms. Steffensky's secondary instruments are Piano and Saxophone. 

Ms. Steffensky has served as staff for MA Dance Auxillary, training drum majors, as well as, taught private lessons to local high school students. Ms. Steffensky's professional affiliations include Texas Music Educator's Association and Texas Bandmaster's Association. Her hobbies are road cycling, reading, weight lifting, and running. She also enjoys spending time with family and eating as much Mediterranean food as possible! She looks forward to a great school year filled with great music!


Mr. Clay Roesler

Mr. Clay Roesler is from San Antonio, TX and is a recent graduate of Oklahoma Christian University, where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 2021. During his college career, he has performed in three university ensembles including the Oklahoma Christian University Symphonic Band, Chamber Orchestra and Steel Drum Ensemble. Furthermore, he had the pleasure of performing with the University of Central Oklahoma Percussion Studio, attending professional development events like the University of Oklahoma Steel Pan Festival.

 

In addition to his involvement with music, he holds a true passion for the marching arts. Mr. Roesler was a contracted front ensemble member of Crossmen Drum & Bugle Corps (2020-2021) and is currently on The Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps Administration Team. Student teaching allowed him to work with Mustang High School (Mustang, OK), Mustang Central Middle School, Meadow Brook Intermediate Elementary School and Mustang Valley Elementary School. In addition to student teaching, Mr. Roesler’s teaching experience includes, working as a freelance private percussion lesson instructor and serving as a Percussion Technician for Douglas MacArthur High School, San Antonio (his Alma Mater) and Veterans Memorial High School (San Antonio). 

Mr. Roesler professional affiliations  include: the Texas Music Educators Association and Texas Bandmasters Association.

In his free time, Mr Roesler’s hobbies include fishing, watching sports, hiking, traveling, and spending time with friends.

Mr. Roesler is excited to serve Alvin High School Band and looks forward to a successful year!
