Welcome! Nice to meet you here!
I’m so glad to work with my partner, Paul. It was a fantastic experience that we came out with the story and added many concepts and lessons into it without using ChatGPT. Especially in this AI era, it would be so much easier for us to use ChatGPT; however, we decided the story should be created by humans. We believe that only we truly understand what lessons the students need. In terms of the story, I structured the first draft of the story, and Paul and I discussed on the phone and added new plots into it. Then, we used ChatGPT to help us divide the story into different pages. For storybook creation, we used the same account to edit, which turned out to be great. Paul and I used ChatGPT and Grok to help us generate the pictures in the book. I’m in charge of designing the whole book layout, and we edited the book together to make sure all of the elements in the e-book look nice and attractive for the kids. I was also in charge of using ElevenLab to add voice narration to a digital picture book. Paul and I checked the final picture book afterward. We had good collaboration, and we had a lot of fun in this project.
The proudest creative element I created is, without a doubt, the voiceover for the e-book. It sounds easy, but it is not. I spent plenty of time trying to find the best sound for each character. I was really happy and satisfied when I saw the final result. The challenge I encountered is that one account only has 10,000 free credits. I ran out of credits because of pursuing the best. (Every time you try out a sentence for a voice, it will count in credits, no matter whether you download the voice or not.) But I easily resolved the problem by creating another account for another 10,000 credits! In terms of creating the pictures for the book, we encountered several problems. The first one is the consistency of the characters. Another big problem is the limitation per day. But we created them day by day and learned to give GPT more and more accurate prompts as we went. I can say both Paul and I are now PRO-AI picture prompt givers!
The most meaningful part of this project is to create the storybook. I was thinking about what’s the difference between using PowerPoint and the Book Creator, and at the end, I finally realized that I can download the whole project as the .epub file, which I can use to publish on all the e-book platforms! With the file, students can also import the storybook into their devices by simply opening the file! This project did influence me a lot on what a language teacher can do in terms of language teaching. In this AI era, we are now having the ability to create so many digital teaching materials for free and in a creative way! — Always think different, and dream big.
