The Alton High School library is available to provide curriculum and teaching support; space for class meetings, professional development, and extracurricular activities; and materials to meet your professional and personal interests.
There are several areas of the library that can be reserved for a class visit or a professional or extra-curricular meeting. The seating area to the right of the nonfiction shelves (East side) can accommodate a large class (36+ students) and has a large drop-down screen, podium, as well as a computer connected to a projector. The seating to the left of the nonfiction shelves (West side) can accommodate 24 students seated at tables. Finally, the Collaboration Corner (A282) contains 10 tables with dry-erase tops, one or two Viewboards and seating for 36. Tables and chairs are wheeled, allowing for various seating configurations. Reservations can be made by completing the Reservation Request form or by emailing Fiona Griswold (fgriswold@altonschools.org).
The primary purpose of the AHS Library and Library staff is to enable/enhance student learning by partnering with instructional staff to provide resources and support. Teachers are invited to contact the librarian (fgriswold@altonschools.org) or via the Reservation Request form to request assistance including co-planning and/or coteaching a lesson, providing student instruction in research best practices, curating physical or digital resources to support student research, and more.
