The mission of the Alton High School library is to support the educational mission of Alton High School and the Alton School District by providing a positive, progressive, and supportive environment in which students can pursue their academic goals and achieve their potential to become informed, productive citizens.
Provide students and faculty with materials that enrich and support the curriculum, stimulate curiosity, and facilitate the development of academic and leisure interests and hobbies.
Collaborate with teaching colleagues to support all areas of the curriculum and promote the use of instructional technology through access to information, planning, and co-teaching.
Foster a life-long enjoyment of reading through the acquisition and promotion of materials in a variety of formats, representing diverse topics, perspectives, and appeal.
Serve as the center of the AHS learning community by providing space for individuals to gather and collaborate, functioning as a "safe space" for students, and offering experiences and enrichment activities that appeal to the social, emotional, and recreational needs of all members of the school community.
I am so happy to join the Alton High School community as the new librarian. I knew as soon as I interviewed for this role that I was meant to become a Redbird and return to my true calling as a school librarian. After I completed my Master's degree in Library Science at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and received my educator license, my family relocated to Lake Charles, Louisiana where my husband served as a professor of creative writing at McNeese State University. We were excited to return to the Midwest after nine years in Louisiana where, most recently, I taught middle school English and social studies. My husband, John, now works as a writer for Washington University in St. Louis, and we have one son starting his second year at Louisiana State University and another son at Edwardsville High School completing his junior year. Please stop by the library to say hello. I'm looking forward to getting to know many students during the school year.
