Dear Parent/Guardian and Student,
This is a year long class designed to help improve students’ art skills; drawing, painting, and designing artwork using a variety of media and techniques, develop students’ creativity and self-expression, and recognize and use the art elements (line, shape, color, value, form, texture and space), and design principles (rhythm, balance, proportion, variety, emphasis, harmony and unity).
Student Responsibilities:
It is the student’s responsibility to be on time to class everyday as well as be prepared to work. Students are expected to complete all assignments on time, to work within the rules and guidelines of the class, and to use their time wisely to make up any work missed due to an excused absence. Students are expected to work during our class time together as well as continuing to work on their projects on their own time.
Grading:
Grading is divided into four categories.
Participation Sketchbook Projects Written Work/Tests/Quizzes
Participation:
Participation consists of being present in class, on time, prepared, and working during class time.
Sketchbook:
Your sketchbook will be made up of practice, exercises on technique, and rough sketches. Most sketchbook assignments will be completed in class.
Projects:
Projects are completed in class. We will use a variety of mediums to create fun and interesting projects throughout the trimester. SOmetimes students will need to bring their projects home to finish them if they were absent or if they need a little extra time to complete their work of art.
Written Work/Tests/Quizzes:
We will learn about art history and have a few quizzes and tests on basic understanding of art.
Daily Expectations:
Please bring a positive attitude and a willingness to try. A majority of work for each project will be done in class. Being late, being absentand not making up the work, and/or wasting class time will all negatively affect your grade. Effort is key.
Classroom Rules and Behavior Expectations: (These directly affect your citizenship grade.)
Be prepared - positive attitude, suggested materials, expected assignments done.
Treat yourself and others with respect so we can all learn - show respect for instructional time.
Follow all school rules while in the classroom. (Ex: No cell phone use, no gum, no inappropriate language, etc.)
Be on time - Be ready to work when the bell rings.
Cellphones are not allowed. They should be off and out of sight.
If you are having a bad day, send me a message and let me know.
