How to Do Well in Art Class
EXPECTATIONS:
Art students are graded not only on completion of art projects, but on behavior, class participation, effort, finishing artwork neatly and in a timely manner, homework and adherence to school rules and policies. It is understood that not every student comes into art class with the same level of experience or confidence in art making, so below are ways to improve your art skills, get good grades and make great works of art.
Art grades count towards honor roll as well as, in 8th grade, the selection of the valedictorian and salutatorian.
BEHAVIOR:
Show respect for teachers and classmates
Demonstrate careful and respectful use of art materials, equipment and the artwork of others
Minimize/eliminate distractions for self and others
PARTICIPATION:
Ask questions!
Be active in class discussions
Minimize/eliminate distractions for yourself and others
Raise hand, wait to be called on
Make thoughtful comments
Consistently offer to help set up and clean up art materials and artwork
EFFORT:
Minimize/eliminate distractions for self and others
Listen to lessons and instructions the first time they are given
Maximize class time, stay focused on art project or task
Ask for help
Raise hand to indicate help is needed, don’t sit waiting for teacher to ask if you need help (though teacher does do this periodically to class as a whole)
HOMEWORK:
On the rare occasion the art teacher gives homework, it should be brought to class on time. If homework is not brought to class on the due date, no credit will be given for that class time
TIMELINESS/COMPLETION OF ART PROJECTS:
Complete class projects neatly and in a timely manner
Arrive at class consistently on time
Complete all art projects in order to receive credit
SCHOOL RULES:
Follow all school rules and policies
