Message from Miss Jennifer
On this page I will provide instructional resources, explanations, and pictures to help support you as you support your student in their education!
This is new to everyone, so I appreciate your support and dedication during this time.
I encourage you to look around and become familiar with our website, resources, and materials. If you have any questions please fill the "Parent/Guardian Question" form (located above) and I will get back to you quickly.
I will post a question of the day, our lesson, videos, and possible other materials.
Love, Mrs. Best

March 23-27 - Food preparation
Using an adapted book we will identify kitchen appliances and their use
Daily Routine and schedule
I will provide a brief daily schedule. I will also provide a link for a home daily visual routine. Also, if you need any help with a home routine or visuals don't hesitate to ask!
Monday - Room Service - consisted of making a treat for the school and delivering those treats (and water/soda). Then cleaning after ourselves
Tuesday - Community Outing for half of the class. The other half of the class would work on IEP goals.
Wednesday - In the morning we would have music provided by a volunteer. She would choose a genre, play the piano, and sing for our students in the music room. Afterwards we would go to the little kitchen and have cooking.
Thursday - In the morning's high school volunteers would come and we would practice social skills, leisure activities, recycle, and do laundry. After lunch and seminary we would then do Adapted Physical Education (A.P.E)
Friday - Half of the class would go on a Community Outing and the other half would work on IEP goals. We would continue to practice cooking, social skills, and work on a leisure activity (art, lesson on understanding how to play games, read aloud skills)
Rules and Procedures
When we begin our morning meeting, lessons, and IEP goals, we review the rules and procedures.
Follow directions
Eyes on teacher (parent/guardian/caregiver)
Stay in desk (chair, etc.)
Stay together
Morning Meeting
Morning Meeting happened before we started our day. We went over the following:
Classroom rules (listed above), how would you like to greet someone, how do you feel, the calendar (days of the week, month, season), question of the day, and then our daily schedule.
Brain Dance: Helps students/individuals prepare their minds for learning! Begin lessons with the Brain Dance
Pick a Greeting
Each student is given different options to choose how they would like to greet someone every morning.
How do you feel?
Each student is given an array of emotions to show how they feel.
Reward systems
Here are links to reward system (token economy) used in my classroom when working on IEP goals and during group lessons.
This link is a FIRST-THEN board. It has visuals for your student the item you will be doing first (cooking, laundry, etc. and then what will happen next)
Task Analysis
A task analysis is breaking down a skill into smaller steps.
Here are examples below
Cooking
Cooking is a life skill that we worked on with our students weekly!
Here are visual recipes to continue to work on with your student!
Laundry
Visual strip to follow laundry steps and a laundry booklet to read with students.
