Keys to Success
This exercise will guide you to recognize your strengths and interests, which can lead you to happiness in your chosen profession.
HOLLAND CODES:
Do you want to know how to be happy in your career? Dr. John Holland found the answer! He was a psychologist in the 1950s from Johns Hopkins University who studied job satisfaction. He believed that people fall into one of six different personality types. His research showed that people who have the same personality type as the career field in which they work tend to have higher job satisfaction.
The six personality areas that John Holland identified were Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Click on the following buttons to view videos describing each personality area.
ASSIGNMENT:
1. You will be asked questions during this lesson that need to be recorded via this Google Survey.
Open the Google Survey in one window
Open Keys to Success in another window.
Toggle between the two windows to do your work and to write your answers.
2. Take the Interest Profiler on Keys to Success
Click on Enter as Guest
Click on My Careers
Click on Launch My Career
Click Interest Profiler
Read each question and answer the questions honestly regarding how you would feel doing that activity, not necessarily if you know how to do it now. Avoid marking "Unsure."
When you are done, view results.
3. After completing the inventory, your ranked personality profiles will be displayed. Answer the following questions on the Google Survey:
According to the Interest Profiler, what are your top three personality interest categories?
View the definition of your top 3 areas - the definition is on the Keys to Success results page.
4. Click on your top personality profile and explore the possible careers in that area. Each list will let you see jobs in each area. You can click on these jobs to view more information such as how much money you can make, or how available these jobs are in Utah. Spend time looking at enough careers to be able to answer the questions on the Google Survey.
