Welcome to First Grade
2025-26
Hello Parents and Students! We are so excited to have your 1st graders in our classes here at Silver Lake! This year is crucial for kids to learn how to be successful students and develop more responsibility for their own actions and accomplishments. Together we will increase your child’s knowledge and build confidence as we learn fundamental math and language concepts. We hope to help your children develop the social skills necessary to be successful. Working together will guarantee an enriching and positive experience for your child. We look forward to meeting all of you!
Birthdays
Birthdays are an exciting time of year for everyone! Students may bring store bought treats to school on their birthday but it is not necessary. We strongly encourage treats that are individually wrapped as well. Please make sure there is one for every student and it doesn’t contain any nuts. If you are providing a treat, please let us know ahead of time to ensure there is time to celebrate!
Attendance
If your child has been out of school due to illness, PLEASE make sure that they are fever free-- without medication--for at least 24 hours before returning to school to avoid spreading illness. We will be sure to give them adequate time to make up any work they have missed.
Homework
Our expectation for homework is for your student to read for 20 minutes a day. We may send home optional resources and projects throughout the year, and we do encourage you to use these to help your student grow!
Classroom Management
In order to guarantee all the students in our classrooms have the learning environment they deserve, there are some basic expectations in place for the classroom. We know that all students can behave appropriately in class. We hope this policy will enhance learning and facilitate instruction.
Class Rules:
1. I will follow directions the first time
2. I will keep my hands, feet, and objects to myself
3. I will put people up, not down
4. I will use noise levels appropriate for the classroom
5. I will use materials the correct way and put them away when finished
Please note, toys are not allowed in the classroom. This includes items such as stuffed animals, Pokemon cards, and distracting erasers or pencils. All communicative devices such as smartwatches need to be kept in backpacks during school hours. This policy helps keep our classrooms a learning environment for all students.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions throughout the year, we are happy to help!
Sincerely,
Silver Lake First Grade Team
