I believe that every student has the right to be treated with respect and to have their needs met. Every student learns at their own pace. Every student evolves. There are more things interfering with a student's proficiency than what is taught in the classroom, so we can never compare proficiency levels, but we need to provide the tools so that each student can progress.
I believe in innovation. I believe we must learn and apply strategies. There is more to a lesson than what is in the plan. There are strategies and practices that make the content explored engaging.
I believe in teamwork. We are all masters and apprentices and there is power in collaboration. Families are also the community that will influence student success, so communication must be clear and constant.
I believe that teaching languages is creating a global community of understanding and respect for differences. To do this, we need to provide opportunities for students to build cultural competence and understanding.
In addition to defending the teaching of World Languages, I am a defender of the DLI program, understanding its benefits for the population. I dream of the day when every school is a DLI school.
