NEW! Musical Scavenger Hunt: Look for the following sounds in your house
• Something you rattle or shake
• Something you tap
• Something you scrape
• Something you blow in or across
*Use materials around your home to create a musical instrument. If you can, draw a picture of your instrument or save it for later to bring back in to school. Be ready to discuss the following in your next music class:
a. What did you name your instrument?
b. What materials did you use to make your instrument?
c. How do you play your instrument?
d. What kind of music would you create with your instrument?
*Take a few hours or even a day and make a list of everywhere you hear music. What types of music did you hear? Were you surprised to hear music in any specific places? Be ready to discuss what you discovered in your next music class.
*Interview an adult about music! Ask them some questions about music when they were growing up. Take notes and be ready to share with our class. Here are some sample questions to ask:
a. Did you have a favorite song as a kid?
b. Did you have a favorite singer/band growing up? Who was it? What was your favorite song?
c. How did you listen to music when you were a kid?
d. Did you have music in school? Do you remember what kind of songs you sang? Did you play games? Did you dance or play instruments? Did you like music class? Why or why not?
