Make a rain cloud in a jar. You will need:
shaving cream (the foam kind, not gel)
food coloring
a clear cup or jar
water
How to make your cloud rain:
Fill the cup or jar almost to the top
Put a 'cloud' of shaving cream on top of the water. Let it sit for 1 to 2 minutes to let the shaving cream settle
Drop food coloring on top of your cloud and watch what happens!
What do you think the food coloring represents? What happens when the shaving cream gets full of food coloring? How does this model show us what happens to real clouds?
Learn about the water cycle by watching this video.
Create a small model of the water cycle with the following:
sandwich sized clear plastic bag
1/4 cup of water
blue food coloring
tape
window
Mix the blue food coloring with the water (this makes it easier to see).
On the plastic bag you can draw the sun and a cloud at the top and waves for the water at the bottom if you would like.
Pour the water in the plastic bag and seal it closed tightly.
Hang the plastic bag up in a window using tape and observe it for a few days.
See if you can identify the different parts of the water cycle: evaporation, condensation, and precipitation
