Updates

May 11th, 2020

As a reminder, Chromebook check-in will take place next week on the 19th and 20th from 10:00-12:00. To reduce the amount of traffic, we ask that all those with last names beginning A-L return them on the 19th and M-Z on the 20th. Tables will be set up in front of the building to facilitate this process and we ask that parents returning Chromebooks park in the west parking lot when doing so. Please make sure you bring the power cord as well. As per district guidelines, missing power cords or minor damage to the Chromebook including missing keys will require collecting a $25 fee at the time of check-in. The charge for a cracked screen or Chromebook that cannot be repaired is $100.

*At the same time as Chromebook check-in, all 1-6 grade teachers will be stationed throughout the east parking lot to hand out bags of personal items. We ask all parents to drive through and pick-up these bags during the designated time according to your last name.

Dear Parents,

Please continue to help your students complete their work. I know that this closure has gone on longer than we expected but I have seen a decline in student work and student surveys since coming back from spring break. It is still important for your students to be logging on, watching the videos, and completing their work AND the survey so I can monitor if they are able to access! We will have another day where we turn in student packets and we will use this information to help us with grades for the end of the year. If you're stuck, your student needs extra help or videos, etc... I am available for help. I can come drop things off that your student might need, I can send more videos, anything you need help with! Please reach out if you need help or your student needs help! I appreciate all you are doing as parents, please remember I am still available and happy to do whatever I can to help your student continue to learn!

Thank you so much, we truly appreciate you and we know you have a lot on your plates right now! Even though we can't see each other as much, please remember I am still here to help.

April 23, 2020

Dear Parents,

On Monday between 11:00-12:30 during the lunch pickup, we will be passing out new packets for your students. Most of you already turned in your blue and salmon packets when I made home visits, however, when we are handing out new packets we will be collecting the following weeks if you have not turned them in:

The salmon packet week 3 for March 30th- April 3rd

The blue packet week 4 for April 13th- 17th

The yellow packet week 5 for April 20th- 24th

You will still keep the green packet, as that week will be starting this upcoming Monday while we are giving out the new packets. We will give you packets that contain 2 additional weeks. It will have a LIME green and a salmon packet in it. This will be the last packet your students will receive for the school year. We will however, have another time where we will be collecting the last three weeks before the school year ends in order to put grades in. As that time gets closer I will give you an update. For now, we only expect to collect the salmon, blue, and yellow weeks that you currently have and give you the remaining weeks!

Thank you for all you are doing and feel free to contact me with any questions! You can text, call, or email me!

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for having your students Salmon and Blue packets ready for me! It makes it so much easier for me to monitor where your students are at! I appreciate it, it makes our grading for this tricky trimester much easier! I will have another pick up day in the future for those who werent ready today but it was so nice to be able to come by all of your houses and see your kids from a distance! You're amazing. Please feel free to send pictures of your students work as well If I was not able to connect with you today, or I will annouce another pick-up day sometime next week! I appreciate all you do!

April 17th, 2020

Dear Parents,

I will be coming by tomorrow to pick up the first two packets, the SALMON packet and the BLUE packet. I only need the papers. If you could just leave your kids packets in your mailbox, I will grab them from there to keep in line with social distancing! Thank you to all the parents who were able to return the first two packets when they came to pick up the next months worth of papers. As teachers we are still required to grade so having your students packets gives me a agood idea of where I can help and where your students are in this crazy process. Thank you so much for all you do!

April 15th, 2020

Dear Parents,

As most of you already know, the closure has been extended to the end of the school year. We are very sad not to be able to have your wonderful, bright students back in our classrooms. We appreciate your help as you continue to help us teachers be able to get our lessons to your students. I understand that this is a very difficult time. Please, always reach out if you have aany confusion, I am still here to help your child and you in whatever way I can. As teachers, we are trying to make it as easy as we can for you and your child. If there is something that does not make sense to you, please do not struggle through it, reach out and I will be happy to help! You are amazing. We appreciate you so much!

Also, a quick reminder to help your child fill out the survey at the bottom of our web page so I can see that they are receiving their lessons. However, they only need to fill it out ONCE PER DAY. Do not feel like they need to fill it out after every lesson.

THANK YOU.

Dear Parents,

I hope that things are running a little more smoothly as your students get more used to the online learning. I know this has been a difficult transition and I hope you know how much we appreciate all you are doing to help your students continue to learn online. You guys are awesome! Thank you for reminding students to fill out the daily surveys, they only need to fill out ONE per day! It's just a daily check in that allows me to see that they are successfully getting access and to see how they are doing! I noticed some students filling it out after each lesson, they only need to complete it once a day!

Also, as we start introducing our new writing into our weekly packets, please know that we start their writing early in the week, but they can use the whole week to complete it. They do not need to do all of their writing in one day, feel free to spread it out over multiple days!

Although the school is now closed to the public, our wonderful lunch ladies will still be there to pass out breakfast and lunch in the drive through line from 9:30-11. Please continue to feel free to go through the drive through in order to get meals for your children, just remember that nobody is allowed to go into the school. You can also reach the office by phone 801-610-8108 and our current hours are 8:00-12:00 each day. However, the office will no longer be available for walk ins.

On April 1st starting at 11:30 AM teachers will be doing a driving parade through the school boundaries! We miss your students and wanted to have a fun way to see them from a distance and say hello! We would love to see you and your students outside on your lawns to say hello!

Thank you again for all you are doing!

Dear Parents,

We are SO sorry and wanted to issue an apology about week 2 Math Videos. We were using a different device to record the week 2 math videos. We have resolved the issue to make sure that the math videos are NOT showing the math sheets backwards. They will now be the correct way. Thank you so much for being understanding as we try to work out any kinks that we come across.

Please remember to have your students fill out the survey at the bottom of the page so that I know they have beeen able to access their work and so I can help with anything they may need help with.

This Friday is the last day to check out a Chromebook if you need one for your student. The form you will need to fill out is located at bit.ly/ASDchromebook and the device number will be 000. This Friday is also when you should be bringing back your students completed papers and books! I will be at Geneva from 8:30-11 to collect these and pass out the new packets! We will be passing out the next months worth so that you will not have to come in as often!

March 25th, 2020

March 24th, 2020

Dear Parents,

For Math this week we ended up changing the order of the math papers. We thought that by starting with the fact family papers, like the basketball one, it would flow better for the students as they transitioned into missing addends. I apologize that we did not get this updated in our packets. Please have your students do the basketball sheet today. I will always post the correct sheet under the video. I appreciate your attentiveness in making sure your students are getting the correct sheets done! You are amazing!

Also, as many of you may have heard in the annoucement given by Gov. Gary R. Herbert and State Superintendent Syd Dickson, all Utah schools will remain closed until May 1st. We will continue online learning and I will continue to update the website with your students lessons. As for your students packets and books, we ask that you make sure to return all 8 books students were given, along with their completed packets on Friday, from 8:30- 11 . For the time being teachers are allowed to enter the schools. However, we may be restricted in the future so we are going to transition to having books for your children on their wonders site. This will start next week. It will show the book in their to-do list along with their other assignments. Please have Students read the Monday book furst, after that they are free to choose. If schools officially close to teachers we will update you with a plan regarding how we will do digital packets. We are still working on figuring out the best way for our first graders to do this online, if needs be. Thank you for your patience and support! During this time it is very important that your child is participating in online learning so that they don't fall behind as we try to prepare them for second grade. We appreciate all that you are doing as parents to help us during this time. We miss your children, and hope that things will be resolved so we can return to school following May 1st.

A couple annoucements I want to reiterate are as follows:

*Breakfast and lunch will continue to be available for pick-up from 8:30-11:00 each day. The exception will be during the regularly scheduled spring break from April 6-10.

*If you happen to move during the closure, we would ask you to please notify the office. The school number is 801-610-8108 and our current hours are 8:00-12:00 each day.

*Preschool and Kindergarten registration is on-going. Packets are available for pick-up in the office.

*Our final school community council meeting of the year was originally scheduled for next week. During that meeting, the council was slated to vote on next year’s Trustlands plan. By law, this meeting is always open to the public. Because of current conditions, the council will vote remotely. If you would like a copy of the proposed plan, please feel free to notify Mr. Shelton at jshelton@alpinedistrict.org.

March 23rd, 2020

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our second week of online learning! As we add in two more subjects, Wonders and Science, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns! Also, please remind your students to fill out the survery at the bottom of the page each day. This allows me to see who is completing their online work and also lets me know that you are able to successfully access the online lessons. So far when I have been going through the responses I have not seen all my students, and I want to make sure there is no students being left behind in our online learning! Thank you again for all you do. Mr. Shelton sent out the following schedule for school spirit week, please send any pictures of your students in. We miss them and would love to see their spirit week stuff!

Dear Parents,

In an effort to make things a little easier for those of you who are picking up breakfast and lunch for your students, you can now pick up BOTH breakfast and lunch at the same time. These meals will be available from 8:30-11:00 AM each day! This way you do not need to come back for each meal. Please remember that your children need to be present. Any child 17 years of age or younger can receive meals, you do not need to go to multiple schools. Thank you again for all you do! Next week your kids will be starting Wonders and Science. Next to the wonders picture, I created video to show you how to navigate the site. It is fairly easy once you view the video. Please make sure to use your childs login username that is on their login strip provided in the packet and not the sample username I used in the video. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out. I know this transition is difficult and I appreciate all you are doing at home. Thank you!

March 19th, 2020

If your child was given an imagine learning login, there is a link to the site under resources! Thanks!

March 18th, 2020

Dear Parents,

It is our first day of online learning and we are so excited! Please remember to come and get your students packets! I will be here today from 11-12 to hand out packets! If you pull up curbside through the lunch pick-up line we will hand it to you! If you are not able to come at this time then the office will be open Monday-Friday from 8-12! You are also able to check out technology from the office, it needs to be a parent who picks up the technology and you can only check out one per family. We have many students who have technology needs and we are limited in the technology we have to check out. Also, your child will not be expected to be online for the duration of a normal school day. We have provided online lessons and the packets will allow your child to do some work offline as well. We intentionally did this to make it easier for your children to share access if needed! We appreciate your understanding and patience through the process! While you start helping your students navigate online learning, please reach out if you have any questions. The number I called all parents from yesterday is my personal cell number. I did not want to post my personal number on this website because it is public but if you need it again, shoot me an email and I will send it to you. I appreciate all you are doing as parents! Thank you.

** IF YOU WERE NOT ABLE TO GET A CHROME BOOK FOR YOUR FAMILY DUE TO PASSWORD ISSUES, PLEASE COME BACK TOMORROW FROM 8-12. The first grade team spoke to Mr. Shelton about some parents being unable to get Chromebooks for their families. He wants to make sure every family who needs one receives one. We have resolved these issues and the technology IS available to First Grade Students. Thank you so much for coming and picking up your students packets. We appreciate you so much! **

Dear parents and students,

Welcome to online learning! I am excited to be able to continue teaching your students during this time with the resources we have. I will be using this web page for the upcoming weeks while our school is closed. Our lessons will be uploaded to each day of the week. I also will have packets for your students with resources and materials they will need. I would appreciate it if you could come tomorrow, March 18th, during lunch pick-up to retrieve your students packet. The lunch pick-up will take place from 11-12. I will be at the school to hand out the packets during this time. If you cannot make it during this time, you can pick up your students packet at the front office. The packet will cover the remainder of this week and next week! As a first grade team, we will be working together in order to launch online learning in this unique situation. Due to the short timeline we have been given, and to capitalize on creating the best learning opportunities for your students you may see lessons by all three first grade teachers being given depending on the day and lesson. I will be updating this page with any information you may need to know. As of now, we are preparing your students learning for the remainder of this week and next week. If the closure is extended we will notify you of any updates on this website and create additional packets for that time. We appreciate your support during this time. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
