Aspen Elementary Computer Lab
Disclosure Document
2026–2027
Hello from Mrs. Godfrey in our awesome Computer Lab at Aspen Elementary!
Welcome to another exciting year of learning! Students will become First Class Problem Solvers as we explore how to use computers, science, and technology to help ourselves and others.
Schedule:
K–6th graders attend computer class once a week for 40 minutes
Course Overview:
Students will complete a variety of activities that build computer knowledge, creativity, and responsibility. Lessons follow the Alpine School District Technology Curriculum, which includes four strands:
Digital Safety & Citizenship – Media Balance, Privacy, Online Etiquette, Cyberbullying, Digital Communication, and AI Awareness
Foundational Technology Skills – Keyboarding, File Management, IT Basics, Research, and Using Technology to Communicate
Coding & Computer Science – Algorithms, Debugging, Loops, Events, Systems, and Impacts of Computing
Creativity & Innovation – Technology in the Design Process and Creating Original Works Activities are adjusted for grade level and learning styles.
Grading:
The computer grade is Pass/Fail based on students being actively engaged in my class. Students are expected to attend, follow directions, and engage in classwork.
At-Home Practice:
Students in grades 3–6 are encouraged to practice keyboarding using correct fingering and Home Row Keys. Families can visit the Computer Lab Website via the school homepage for grade-level lessons, digital activities, and internet safety resources.
Student Passwords:
Students should share their password with their parents and keep it secure. We encourage parents to actively monitor their child’s gmail account to ensure safe and appropriate online behavior, as parent involvement is essential to digital safety. Learn more at www.alpineschools.org/page/navigating-technology-partnering-with-parents
ASD Technology Policy:
Please review and discuss Alpine School District’s technology policies with your child.
Beginning in 3rd grade, students will have a district email account added to their Google Workspace and create a unique password. We encourage parents to help their child keep their password secure and to monitor their child’s use of their district account.
Although students receive this email account beginning in 3rd grade, Aspen Elementary does not incorporate email into classroom instruction until 6th grade. Parent involvement is an important part of helping students use technology safely and responsibly, both at school and at home (Navigating Technology - Partnering with Parents). Please read “Student Email” and “Student Account” (sections circled above) carefully.
Students are expected to use district technology resources appropriately at all times. Misuse of district technology (like sending an email in 3rd-5th grades) and/or inappropriate use of their Google Workspace (like cyberbullying through email or Google Docs), may result in loss of technology privileges and other school disciplinary consequences consistent with District Policy 7250 - Acceptable Use of Technology Resources and the Student Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA).
