Thank you for being willing to donate. I really appreciate it! Because of requests, I have made an Amazon list with things I could use in my classroom. If you'd like to donate towards our classroom surprises (but shhh don't tell) like butterflies, bubbles, flashlights, etc, the easiest way would be through an amazon gift card. You can access my Amazon list here.
Just a backpack! The school provides all the pencils, crayons, erasers, scissors, and glue they'll need. Please leave their special pencils and other materials at home so they don't get lost.
AM at the Kindergarten playground drop off at 9:05am and pick up at 12:00pm.
PM at the Kindergarten playground drop off at 12:35pm and pick up at 3:30pm.
Please drop off students at the Kindergarten gate no more than 10 minutes before the bell. We ask that parents do not enter the Kindergarten playground to prevent crowding and to protect students. The bell will ring at 9:15am or 12:40pm to indicate kiddos to line up to start school. Once school starts the Kindergarten gate and classroom doors will be locked. If late, please take your child to the office to be checked in and then walk down to class.
When class is dismissed, we will wait for the kids to find their rides inside the Kindergarten playground. They are only allowed to go with a parent or sibling, unless the parent gives me special permission via text or email, before dismissal, that they can go with another student.
If your child rides the bus, then an aide will pick them up from the bus when they get to school and walk them to the bus at the end of school. Please fill out a bus tag so we know what bus they ride on.
We love to celebrate all student birthdays! Summer birthdays will be celebrated on their half birthdays. If it happens that their birthday or half birthday is over holiday breaks or weekends, reach out to me and we'll schedule a different date that would work best for you.
We'll sing, wear a birthday crown, and their peers will get to ask them questions as they sit in my special chair. They are welcome, but not obligated, to bring something to share with the class. If you bring a treat, please make sure it is store-bought and individually wrapped. Please send them with the student to school.
No :) Please leave the snacks and toys at home. Both sessions are just over 2 hours and we don't have scheduled snack time. So please make sure they eat before they arrive. There is plenty to do at recess without bringing their toys.
Children learn through movement. So let them learn through their play at home; for that can't always happen in my classroom. That being said, I do give homework folders that have things you can do with them at home to help them progress at school. It is your choice whether you want to use them or not. I know life gets busy and tough so what I provide are supplements for what I already teach but gives extra practice.
If you have a moment, read with your child. Research shows it's the best thing you can do with them to help them progress academically. :)
Yes! We love our parent volunteers! We have a take home library that I'll need help managing each week, class parties throughout the year, and help with center groups. The best is to email or text me with the times and days that you are available to help out. Sign ups for the parties are usually at back to school night, but if you are interested to help just let me know!
If you are just dropping off your student we ask that you do not come into the classroom. It becomes more hurtful than helpful for it can be distracting and harder for the students to adjust.
Each week we will celebrate a student in our class and get to know them better. I will send home an 11x17 poster home with your child the Friday before your child is the star student. You'll get to color, put pictures in, and write in your answers to the sections on the poster. Ex: favorite color, animal, what you'd like to be when you grow up, etc. The week your child is signed up we will present their poster to the class on that Monday. After, I'll hang up their poster in my room to be seen all week, and they will get to be the teacher's assistant.
You may also send your child's favorite book to school with the poster on Monday and we will read it to the class. The kids love this and they get to be exposed to books they may not know!
