We’re getting into the groove of school. The first quarter is about to end, and October is an eventful month.
Parent Teacher Conferences are the first week of October. I’m looking forward to meeting with you all.
We have been learning about figurative language, comprehension, theme, summarizing, and annotating. We practice these things just about every week of the school year.
We’re working on narrative writing piece. Have your student login to their google account at home and let you read their story.
Don’t forget that students should be reading 30 minutes each night (40 if they want to be in the Hall of Fame). I’m checking planners for these minutes every Monday.
We’re just starting our unit on adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals. This is followed by a unit on dividing decimals, which leads into dividing fractions.
We’re about halfway through our unit on energy transfer. This will lead into our unit on weather.
On October 29th, we’ll be visiting the Christa McAuliffe Space Center. Look for a note and email in a week or so with more details. (This field trip actually addresses topics in both Science and Social Studies.)
In Social Studies, we are learning about ancient civilizations. Our Ancient Civilizations Procession is planned for November 24th. Look for a note with more details.
We’re a few weeks into our NOVA program. NOVA’s mission is Nurturing youth to seek out positive Opportunities, internalize good Values, and to accept Accountability for their choices in life. The program looks to protect youth from the potentially devastating effects of illegal drugs, violence, and negative media exposure.
As the weather gets colder, I recommend you write your child’s name somewhere on their jacket/coat. (This is also a good idea for lunch boxes.).
Parent-teacher conferences are on October 1st and 2nd. I’ll be focusing on the Acadience reading assessment and our Math Diagnostic.
