Your task for this project is to create something to teach 6th graders about the Lewis & Clark Expedition

You are going to assume that these 6th graders have never heard about Lewis and Clark or the Louisiana Purchase

You will be helping them learn the important information!

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

Whatever format you choose, you will need to include the following: 

A TITLE PAGE, POSTER, OR SLIDE

This should have all of the following:

• An interesting title that relates to The Lewis and Clark Expedition

• An interesting picture that relates to The Lewis and Clark Expedition

• Your first and last name, as well as your class period

AN INTRODUCTION PAGE, POSTER, OR SLIDE

This portion should help the 6th graders know where and when this expedition is taking place. This portion should answer all of the following questions:

• What is Louisiana?

• Where is Louisiana?

• When is this taking place?

• Who owned Louisiana?

• What did people think about this area? What were some of the myths? You can find some myths here

A PAGE, POSTER, OR SLIDE THAT EXPLAINS THE HISTORY OF THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE

This portion should help the 6th graders understand more about the history of the Louisiana Purchase. The Background Information page of this website can help you with this. Make this portion interesting for your 6th grade readers! This section should answer these questions:

• Why did the United States want to buy Louisiana?

• Why did France want to sell Louisiana?

A PAGE, POSTER, OR SLIDE THAT EXPLAINS THE PURPOSES OF THE LEWIS & CLARK EXPEDITION

This portion should help the 6th graders understand why Lewis and Clark went on this expedition. The Background Information page of this website can help you with this. No lists here, please! Explain to your 6th graders what Lewis & Clark hoped to accomplish!

A PAGE, POSTER, OR SLIDE THAT GIVES A GOOD MAP OF THE LOUISIANA PURCHASE

This portion should help the 6th graders understand where The Louisiana Purchase was and the route that Lewis & Clark took. You can find a map in the Background Information page if you can't find a better map on your own. This map must have all of the following:

• The path that Lewis & Clark took to the Pacific Ocean

• The United States

• The Louisiana Purchase

A PAGE, POSTER, OR SLIDE THAT SHOWS THE SUPPLIES AND TECHNOLOGY THAT THE EXPEDITION TOOK WITH IT

This portion should help the 6th graders understand what it took to keep an expedition going. Include information that you think would be interesting to 6th graders. The Background Information page of this website can help you with this. Include the following:

• Pictures and short explanations of some of the technology

• Pictures and short explanations of some of the other supplies

A PAGE, POSTER, OR SLIDE THAT SUMMARIZES THE SUCCESSES OF THE LEWIS & CLARK EXPEDITION AND GIVES A CONCLUSION TO YOUR PROJECT

This portion should help the 6th graders understand the successes of the expedition. It should also help them understand what they have learned. The Background Information page of this website can help you with this. Include the following:

• An explanation of the successes

• A summary statement helping them understand what you have taught them
