Dear Parents,

We will be using this website and we have been Google Classroom all year long in our class. I think this transition to online learning will be a breeze for your student. However, if it's not, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have ANY questions, concerns, or road blocks along the way. My goals during this time are to provide assignments so your student continues learning and solidifying their sixth grade content and does not regress academically, be a resource for parents who are going crazy being quarantined with children (in any grade), and to stay connected to our students. I believe these goals can be accomplished in many ways and I do not want to cause extra stress during this uneasy time. So, please contact me ASAP if any of the expectations are not working for you and your family and I know we can find a solution that will fit. When in doubt, make sure your student reads from a chapter book every day and practices their math facts every day.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • What will be required of my student every week? Your student will be required to complete their LexiaCore5 minutes online, read 30 minutes from a chapter book every day, give 1 video response of their reading per week, and complete an entire math skill on IXL. They will check off that they completed these things on Google Classroom and create the video response on FlipGrid.
  • What programs will my student be on? Assignments/communication from the teacher - Google Classroom. Math - IXL. Reading - PowerUp. Video Response - FlipGrid, Online Teaching-Nearpod
  • Why are my students doing so much online? Any of the programs your student will be using are programs that I can set the task and I can track progress. They will not be doing random things online.
  • Does my student have homework outside of the daily assignments? No. However, if they finish their Must Do List Early, and want to go Above and Beyond, they will get inserted into a drawing. These will include: online breakout games in a variety of topics/subjects, acts of kindness, writing assignments, creating adobe spark presentations, reading picture books on our classroom FlipGrid for other students to listen to, and IXL math skills that go above fourth grade content. THESE ARE NOT REQUIRED.
  • How will my student access and turn in the assignments? By going to google classroom. Students are familiar with this because we use it daily in class. For Google Classroom, Click Here!
  • What are my student's usernames and passwords? Students have memorized most passwords at this point in the year :) However, I will email you the entire login card if needed/wanted. Just shoot me an email if you'd like it.
  • Do you have any extra resources/suggestions for me while we are stuck at home? This website has links to extra activities in each subject! A great art youtube channel is artforkidshub. A great math game is prodigy. Free coding practice for kids at code.org. I'd love to print/copy any materials for you to pick up at the school.
  • In what sixth grade content areas does my student need extra help so I can focus on these while we spend a little extra time together? All sixth grade students need help with Operations with Decimals and Fractions. Reading out loud, the goal is for each sixth grade student to read 151 words out loud in one minute. Time your student and see how far they get. Then, have your student summarize what they read. Email me if you have any specific questions.

Students are the reason we teach, although I can't be with them right now, we still want to be connected! Please stay in touch and thanks for your support.
