Daily Update

May 18, 2020

I'm still working on the movie. Sorry, I'm slow. My goal is to have it done today. Check this afternoon.

May 13-15, 2020

Hi there! Keep working on the packet and watching the videos this week. Then next week, do Lexia for 30 mins on Monday and Tuesday. I will have a class video posted on our website, so don't miss it!! Then, can you believe it, that is the end!!

On Wednesday and Thursday (10:00-12:00) I will see you kiddos at the school when you drive by with your family to get a bag filled with stuff from me and your desk things. If you have any packets left or books from me, bring them at that time. I miss you tons and tons! Can't wait to see you!

May 12, 2020

Hi friends! I am still watching for those going up levels in their Lexia through the 19th. So keep going on that, if you can!

May 11, 2020

Our packet goes through Friday, the 15th. That is First Grade's last day of work. We will not be doing any assessments.

Next week, I will have a class video up on our website in the tab that says, "End of Year Stuff." Normally, I would have the students watch it on the last day of school, but as it is, it will be our official last week.

May 8, 2020

Happy Friday! Happy Mother's Day on Sunday to all the moms!

Summer school will be from July 13- August 7 and is half day. It is a great way to boost up the summer lag right before school starts. Plus, we do lots of fun stuff. I will be contacting some of you about it this weekend.

May 6, 2020

Keep up the awesome work you are doing!

May 5, 2020

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! I have added the Junior Achievement lessons to the Parent Resource page. They are great lessons for you and your child to go through. The link also includes lessons for the other grades.

I know we are all getting weary of doing school work online. These are the last few weeks to really make it count. I know that it is not nearly the same as what we would experience and learn at school, but I know that the students are learning. Every little bit counts! Thank you for sticking through this and being diligent! I appreciate you students and parents very much!

May 4, 2020

Happy week 7 of online school! This week we have some Mothers Day stuff for writing and art. That should be fun! This week I am going to add some things to Parent Resources , above, like helps from Mrs. May our counselor and also some Economics lessons and materials you can download. We normally do it in class and had it scheduled to do in March, but, well, you know what happened next.

I want to let you know that on the Guided Reading Videos I have repeated some lessons from earlier and so the video title may have an earlier week number there. Just didn't want you to be alarmed, if you saw that. I felt that some lessons were worth repeating for their reading.

Also, today is what many Star Wars fans would say, "May the 4th be with you!"

May 1, 2020

Happy May Day! What nice thing are you going to do for someone today (without them knowing- anonymously)?

Have an awesome weekend!

April 30, 2020

Happy last day of April! Tomorrow is May Day. That is a holiday in many European countries. On May Day, they celebrate spring and have festivals. Another thing people can do is leave flowers anonymously (without anyone knowing who it is from) on people's doorsteps.

We can adjust this a bit and do something nice for someone without them knowing it was you. That will be fun n and nice! So today, think about who and what you will do. You can even tell me about it, if you'd like, at the bottom of the Daily Response form.

April 29, 2020

Hey everyone! You are the best stay-at-home school workers I know! I am impressed at what you are doing. It isn't always easy to stay focused, but you are doing awesome! Thank you!

I want you to know that I am working on a video to put on this website at the end of us. I will be coming around and taking your picture with me this week and next. If you would rather stay distanced from me, I will just take a picture of you.

Just a few more weeks left. You can do it! See you when I come!

April 27, 2020

Today is the day to bring back packets from weeks 1-5. Also, I would also like you to include all of the stories that were done because I am making a book of their stories to give out at the end.

I will see you anytime from 11-12:30. Can't wait to see your cute faces!!

April 24, 2020

Good news! We have the last two packets ready for you. I know I said May 1st, BUT I am changing the date because we need to get the new packets to you anyway.

Please bring any packets you have completed. I will be using that info to help me with the grades. Sorry for the confusion. Come MONDAY, APRIL 27 from 11:00-12:30 (lunch pick-up).

April 23, 2020

I totally forgot to write here yesterday. I was busy, however, in our classroom working on May materials for you. We put some exciting stuff together for you. I'm sure you will like it. Thank you for working so well. I will visit this weekend all those who I see have been completing Lexia levels and the Daily forms. Can't wait to see you!

Starting today meals will be picked up just twice a week, but will be enough for the rest of the week days. The new days and times are Monday and Thursday from 11:00-12:30. This will go through May 29th. The new school office hours will be from 11:00-12:00. When my children picked up a lunch there were lots of fruits and vegetables, besides the milk and main dishes. I was impressed and my children well fed.

April 21, 2020

I hope you enjoyed today's change of pace and have fun with today's science activity. I forgot to mention that the videos are only on today and tomorrow - 2 days.

I want you to know that I am proud of you for working hard at home. I know it is not easy to stay focused sometimes. Thank you for being my awesome students that you are!!

IMPORTANT:

Please remember to save all of your assignments, including your stories. I can't wait to read each of your stories.

You will be turning it all in to me on May 1st. I will be doing grades and need to collect what you have done.

April 20, 2020

Welcome to Week 5! Today is 4-20-20. Isn't that cool? 20-20. I enjoyed seeing so many of you on Friday. It made me smile all weekend. Remember that on Tuesday and Wednesday I have some fun science/art lessons for you. Enjoy your Monday!

April 17, 2020

Good morning! I will be coming by this afternoon! See you then!

April 15, 2020

Did you hear the news from Governor Herbert? You get to see more of me on your computers. I also am very sad and even cried to know that we would not all be together in our classroom. I wish it could be different, but since it looks like it is not we will have to make the best of our situation. I am still coming by to bring you something either tomorrow or Friday, by the time I get it all ready. Look for me on your sidewalk! I can't wait to see you and see how you are. Until then, keep up the hard work you Fabulous First Graders!

April 14, 2020

Hello all. Sorry I am a little late this morning. I had two virtual meetings until now.

I wanted to let you know that at the beginning of May I am collecting the packets back so I can see how each of you did. It's my only way of knowing your understanding of the material and for report cards in a few weeks. Yikes! That is coming up too!

If you parents have any questions for the office they are there each week day from 9:30-11:00 to receive phone calls... AND you can still pick up sack breakfast and lunches then too. If you leave a voice message on the phone, they are forwarded to Mr. Shelton's email and he does personally respond to them.

Can't wait to see each of you this week briefly!!

April 13, 2020

WELCOME BACK my sweet friends!!! I hope you had a fun, relaxing, and safe Spring Break! Mine was all those. But, boy, I sure do miss you. I am going to be bringing each of something this week.

This is Miss Haslam's last week officially with us. However, you will see her on our website still. We sure do love having her and will miss her tons. She is graduating and will soon have a classroom of her own. We wish her the very best and are so lucky that Miss Haslam got to be with us even though it was shortened.

Keep doing lots of reading even though you are home so you can be the star readers next year. Plus, you can still see us teachers on your website and not feel so sad that you can't see us for real each day.

April 3, 2020

Just wanted to remind you that next week is Spring Break and we all get a very well deserved break. Enjoy!

Also, I want to add Lola and Keilana to the group who have filled out 5 or more daily updates. Woohoo!!

April 2, 2020

It was so fun to see some of you along the parade route. It made me happy! I miss teaching you kids so much. I sure hope we can still get together in May. I am hopeful! I want to give a shout out to the following for completing their daily updates at the end of 5 or more days - I will come around and give you a treat by tomorrow - Kiara, Eli, Camden, and Maia. When you do five or more, I'll bring you a treat. Now, when these friends do five more they will get another treat. Keep letting me know how you are doing.

April 1, 2020

Good Morning! Remember to watch for our Geneva Parade between 11:30 and 12:00ish. I will be watching for you. Thank you for working hard. I know this is a lot of parent work and I am super appreciative of all that you can do to help your child keep learning. Together we can close the academic gap that may have happened had we not been working together. You're the best!

March 31, 2020

I get to see each of you, from afar tomorrow! Did you see the email from Mrs. Shelton to let you know we are doing a parade in your neighborhood starting from he school at 11:30. He also sent a map on a link to show you where we are driving and if it is not directly past your home, you can stand (away from others) on a corner close by. I would love to see you all!!

If when your child is reading a book in Wonders and it is blocked, it is because you will need to turn off the pop-up blockers for that site,. Here is a link that will explain how to do that. https://wmich.edu/helpdesk/internetdisablepopups

Please let me know if the books assigned to your child is too difficult for him/her. Contact me through email or text. So I can better help you individually. I will collect the worksheets at some point, so please keep a hold of them. Also, a big thank you to those students filling out the daily update at the end of each day.

March 30, 2020

Welcome back! Thank you all for coming to get the packets on Friday. It was wonderful seeing you. Let's hope it is last of the packets and that we can get back to school in May. Fingers crossed!!

You will notice in this week's packet that there is a writing assignment. Instead of Science, we will be doing a writing assignment each week. It is not meant to complete in one day. It can take 2-4 days, depending on the child.

Also, there is a paper for Wednesday that will go along with the first two Wonders stories. It's they type of activity we would have done with those stories at school. The idea is to read both stories, one on Monday, the other on Tueseday or Wednesday and choose which story to fill out the paper with. We have done each of the Wonder paper activities many times in class together, so they should be familiar them.

I am here anytime you need me. Look at the contacts above to reach me. Thank you for all that you are doing. Please give your child a big hug from Miss Haslam and I.

Parents, we wanted to send an apology about our Week 2 math videos. It shows the math pages backwards. We have resolved the issue for our future math videos. Thanks for the heads up on that problem. At least we know you are viewing the videos. We are glad of that!

March 27, 2020

Hi everyone. Hey, I'm here by the lunchroom ready to hand you your child's packet. It has their work through May 1st. I can't wait to see you. Remember to bring your 8 books back, too.

March 26, 2020

Good Morning....or Afternooon to you! I am super excited to see you tomorrow. My team and I have worked hard to get the packets put together for the rest of the weeks - Yes! So you will only need to come one last time- tomorrow (unless closure is extended again)! Remember, between 8:30 and 11:00. If you cannot come then, we will have it in the office and they are open each week day from 8:00-12:00. Tomorrow is also the last day to check out chrome books. Fiil out a form first. To do that go to the following: bit.ly/ASDchromebook when you put in the device number, put in 000.

Thank you for helping your child fill out the daily surveys at the bottom of the web pages. I'd love to see more filled out so I can see how they are doing.

As was said in Mr. Shelton's email, Kindergarten and Preschool registration is happening. Come on over! If you have chocolate at home from the fundraiser, please bring in the money ASAP. During Spring Break there will be no meals served. Plus, we will not be making up the snow makeup day. Yahoo! I guess we got our wish...in a big way!

March 25, 2020

I really enjoyed getting in contact with many of you. My contact information is above when you would like to get a hold of me.

Change of day notice. We are not doing our packet and book exchange today. It will be on Friday still during the breakfast and lunch pick up -8:30-11:00. I'm excited to see you there!

March 24, 2020

So you have probably heard that we will have a third week of online lessons. This was no surprise to any of us and we are busily working to put the third week of lessons together for the cutie first graders who we miss dearly. With that being said, we need to give out another packet of papers to go along with our online lessons. Plus, we want to switch the books out. The returning books will be sanitized before they are returned to our book baskets. Right now Wednesday during breakfast/lunch pick up is when we will be out to switch, otherwise you can come to the office any day from 8-12, but I really hope it works out to see you personally.

I will make an email or phone call contact with each of you this week to see how things are going and what I can do more to be of help. I would also like your feedback about our lessons, ease or difficulty accessing, or anything concerning "school". Thank you for being troopers!

March 23, 2020

I hope you have found this website helpful and not too hard to use. Please let me know if you are having problems. This week we have added science and Wonders. Miss Haslam and I had fun making the science videos, but it would have been way more fun with the students here.

On Wednesday, we will be handing out the next set of packets for the next week. I want to switch out their books I sent home, so please bring them with you. Every child was sent home with 8 books. We will be out by the lunch room as we were before. Hope to see you there!)

Thank you for doing homeschool with your kiddos. I am also doing that with my own children and it is definitely work keeping them focused and on task. So I applaud you!

March 20, 2020

Thank you parents for keeping your kids moving along each day with their school work. I know that this is challenging, as I have three school age ones at home myself. Hopefully, this website and the packet are easy to follow.

I added a note to Lexia Core5 that says the students should do 3 lessons each day. In class it takes them about 15-20 minutes to do that, if they are not distracted. Also, sorry that the link did not work for you yesterday. I fixed todays. This is a learning curve for me too.

Enjoy your weekend break of homeschool tomorrow and Sunday!! Stay safe and healthy! See you Monday!

March 19, 2020

Happy First Day of Spring! So far it has come in like a lion, which the students would be interested in discussing because we have been making predictions about whether or not it would be like a lamb or a lion. Our welcome for today has our Spring poem in it that they will remember.

Today is my first day to be home and manage and update this website for you all. Whew! Please contact me if you need me. I will check my emails daily and the Remind app, too.

Enjoy your Spring, rainy day!

March 18, 2020

It was so fun to see you parents and especially - students. I LOVED it! Please let me know if you have any questions. We plan on keeping this updated for current information. If you were unable to get a computer to check out and want one, please come by the office before noon any week day.

Have fun with the lessons we made! It just wasn't the same without you, but it makes my heart happy knowing you are viewing it. Miss Haslam, my student teacher, is going to keep posting read alouds for you too.

Dear parents and students,

Welcome to online learning! I am excited to be able to continue teaching your students during this time with the resources we have. I will be using this web page for the upcoming weeks while our school is closed. Our lessons will be uploaded for each day of the week. I also will have packets for your students with resources and materials they will need.

I would appreciate it if you could come tomorrow, March 18th, during lunch pick-up to retrieve your student's packet. The lunch pick-up will take place from 11-12 at the curb. I will be at the school to hand out the packets during this time. If you cannot make it during this time, you can pick up your students packet at the front office. The packet will cover the remainder of this week and next week!

As a first grade team, we will be working together in order to launch online learning in this unique situation. Due to the short timeline we have been given, and to capitalize on creating the best learning opportunities for your students you may see lessons by all three first grade teachers depending on the day and lesson.

I will be updating this page with any information you may need to know. As of now, we are prepping your students learning for the remainder of this week and next week. If the closure is extended, we will notify you of any updates on this website and create additional packets for that time.

We appreciate your support during this time. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
