STEP 6: MAKING IMPORTANT CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THE PAST AND THE PRESENT

For the final portion of this assignment, you are going to make connections between what you have learned up to this point about the economy, culture, and geography of your chosen area during colonial times, and those same conditions today. You will then report on those connections.

MAKE THE CONNECTIONS:

Part 1 - Review the conditions of your colonial area during colonial times - this should be what things were really like in the past - you recorded these conditions on page 1 and you discussed them in your colony history

Part 2 - Review the conditions of your colonial area today - this should be what things are currently like - you will focus on two states from your area. You will use the Internet to help guide your research on the current geography, social, economic, and government conditions in the area you have focused on. You will record your findings on page 4 of your British Colony Simulation packet.

REPORT ON THE CONNECTIONS:

Your task is to now present what you have discovered. Pages 1 and 4 will both be very helpful to you as you prepare this report. You need to describe what the conditions were like in colonial times and what they are like today. You can choose any format for this presentation: Google Doc, Google Slides, Google Sites, Canva, and Adobe Spark are some options.

In this presentation, you will explain the historic and modern regional differences that had their beginnings during American Colonization. Choose a method that you feel would be most effective to explain these differences to another 8th grader.

HERE IS HOW YOU WILL DO THIS:

In your explanation, be sure to discuss the following:

The economy of this area. What things have stayed the same? What things have changed?
The geography of this area. What things have stayed the same? What things have changed?
The culture of this area. What things have stayed the same? What things have changed?
The government of the area. What things have stayed the same? What things have changed?

In addition to these similarities/changes, your report must also contain the following:

Your name (first and last) and class period
The name of the colonial area you have chosen to focus on
