Teacher Log in Instructions
1. LOGIN
The teacher computer at the back of the classroom is connected to the overhead projector. You can log on to the computer using the generic login posted on the board.
2. OPEN GOOGLE CHROME
If you can't see the dock, drag your mouse to the bottom of the screen and it should pop up.
3. USE THIS WEBSITE
You will be using this in all grades. Take a moment and familiarize yourself with the activities for the classes coming in that day.
Tech
STUDENT COMPUTERS
Computers should wake up with a wiggle of the mouse. The power button is located on the back of the silver boxes if they aren’t on. Also check for the monitor light to be on. That power button is right below the light on the bottom right of the monitor. If a computer is taking a long time to log in or there are a ton of pop-ups, the student is probably not sitting in their assigned seat.
OVERHEAD PROJECTOR
Use the Epson Projector remote (on teacher desk) to turn on the projector. Whatever’s on the teacher’s monitor will show up on the screen! The freeze button at the bottom allows you to freeze what is showing on the screen while you navigate elsewhere on the teacher computer.
MIC
There is a mic on a lanyard sitting in the charger on my large desk at the back. If you wear it around your neck, it will pick up your voice. Just remember to turn it off when not in use - it picks up everything! Please return to charger at the end of the day.
COMPUTER AUDIO
If you need to play sound from the teacher computer, unplug the hand microphone from the charger and plug it instead to the headphone jack on the red & white cord. Please charge when done.
Class Procedures
ENTERING/GETTING STARTED
The next class will line up outside the lab. Open the door and greet them with hand sanitizer when they walk in. All students use hand sanitizer when they enter the room.
K-1st: Quickly model what you’d like them to do for the day. Set a timer on the projector for about 5-10 minutes if they are starting with typing. After the timer goes off, they can move to the next tasks.
2nd - 6th: Self-start after logging in. Set a timer on the projector for about 5-10 minutes if they are starting with typing. After the timer goes off, they can move to their next assignments.
NAMETAGS
Students should place their name tag tents on the top of the pile. Students’ usernames are on the bottom line of the label inside their name tags.
BATHROOM
One student at a time may use the bathroom or get a drink. Have them grab a hall pass.
EXITING
At about 3 minutes before the end of class, ring the chimes. Students should log out, place name tags on the bottom of the pile, and scoot their chairs back. You can do Would You Rather, Simon Says, Quiet Game, etc until it’s time to go. Dismiss by rows at 1 minute till the next class.
Student Logins
GRADES K - 2
Younger grades use a generic account to log in to the computers. The information to login is on the board. I also have yellow cards in my desk organizer that you can hand out to kids who are struggling. Username and passwords are all in lowercase.
There can be no spaces before or after the name or password for it to work for the student. Also check for caps lock! Most students can log in themselves but be prepared to help or have the kids who can do it help out.
GRADES 3 - 6
Upper grades have their own individual login names and passwords. Most of them know them by now, but they can find their username inside their name tags (it’s a combination of letters from their first and last name). They should know their passwords, but you can prompt by saying something like “it’s usually a combination of your favorite things, like bluepizza7 or something like that.”
They have assigned computer stations. Sitting in a different computer than they usually do will make it more time-consuming to log in and get started. Refer to the seating chart if necessary.
Troubleshooting
LOGIN ISSUES
Computer Log in
Make sure…
there are no sneaky spaces
everything is lowercase & Caps Lock is off
their username is spelled correctly (bottom line of label inside nametag for grades 3-6)
they haven’t put o for 0, or i for l, or mixed up B and D
they are sitting at their normal computer
Google Log in
Make sure…
they are typing their email address (smithjon000@alpinesd.org), not just their username (smithjon000) to log in
they didn’t put @gmail.com. Their email addresses end with @alpinesd.org
STUDENT COMPUTER AUDIO
Control volume by pressing fn + F8 or F9. You may also be able to change the volume with the knobs on the earpieces. If that doesn’t work, go to the Apple in the top left corner of the screen, System Preferences, Sound. Play around with the sound output to see that helps.
You can also try unplugging and replugging the headphones or grabbing a new pair from the basket in the front of the room.
For K-2 on a generic login, you can have them switch to a new computer. Please avoid doing that with grades 3-6 unless you really can’t fix it--logging in on a new computer takes much longer and requires some setup.
